WWE has always relied on the idea of bringing in an old superstar to catch eyeballs as they feuded with another big name in the company. Edge is now back on Monday Night Raw, but his budding feud with The Miz isn’t having quite the impact expected.

The WWE fanbase has made it clear that this tactic of using old superstars in main event slots isn’t working as it has in the past. The Miz and Edge are both capable competitors, but there’s nothing about this angle that creates any excitement in a potential match, nor their future moving up the card. The Miz can help some superstar rise to the occasion, and Edge can also help another star. Using them in this fashion seems like a waste of time for both men.

For example, imagine if Austin Theory was but in an angle with The Miz where the former champion took him under his wing. A similar strategy was used earlier in the year with The Way, where Theory and Indi Hartwell were paired with Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae, to help elevate them on the NXT brand. Instead of setting him up against a top name like Finn Balor, perhaps putting Theory in an angle with The Miz is a better opportunity.

The same could be said about Edge. The WWE would better benefit if he was used in another place on the card. Booking him against Balor or Damian Priest for example would give the proper shine to both of those individuals with a storyline that hasn’t been seen in the past.

Edge’s surprise return at The Royal Rumble was a huge moment that caught everyone’s attention. Since then he’s put on some great matches with the likes of Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins. Fans will cheer whenever they hear his music, but that doesn’t mean the WWE shouldn’t find ways to better leverage him while he is still an active performer.

The Miz has value on the WWE roster and has become a bigger crossover name than many of his colleagues. However, fans have grown tired of seeing him in top-level slots such as this one. Giving another talent the opportunity to feud against Edge, while using The Miz in another fashion would have been a better move, instead of creating this angle that doesn’t help either man.
