When discussing WWE superstar of the year for 2021 – Damian Priest has to be in that conversation due to his standout 12 months in the company.

Priest entered the WWE Royal Rumble as a member of the WWE NXT roster – nobody eliminated more people in the over-the-top-rope bout than him. Only eight men lasted longer in the match than he did. His performance caught the attention of Hall of Famer Kane, who had nothing but good things to say about showing. The former Ring of Honor man became a permanent member of the WWE Monday Night Raw roster 24 hours later.

Three months down the line, Priest was in a high-profile match on Night 1 of WWE WrestleMania 37, teaming with megastar Bad Bunny to defeat The Miz and John Morrison.

Things got even better for the New Yorker at WWE SummerSlam – where he pinned Sheamus to win the prestigious United States Championship.

With his rock star looks and solid in-ring work – the ‘Archer of Infamy’ will go from strength to strength next year.

Taking all of the above into consideration – here is why Damian Priest is going to win a world title in 2022.

The WWE Universe has often criticized the Stamford outfit for “not creating new stars” – they have not missed a beat with Priest so far. Vince McMahon has done a great job booking him up to this point – he must maintain his momentum into the new year and beyond.

Priest made his WWE NXT television debut in 2019. It is refreshing to see a relatively new face pushed straight away.

Recent NXT call-ups – Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott, Keith Lee, and Karrion Kross are no longer in the company. Priest could have dropped the US Title, following those three out of the door, but it is clear WWE has big plans for him. Those plans should include a run with the WWE or Universal title in the future.

The 39-year-old has shown a more aggressive streak in the past three months. He has not turned heel but is not the same, cool, calm, and collected character he was in January. This new version of Priest has given him an extra dimension – his intensity has taken him to another level.

WWE knows they have a star in Priest. They have protected him since he made his main roster debut. He has not been pinned in a singles match on Raw – beating Sheamus, The Miz, Sami Zayn, and Apollo Crews along the way. Dolph Ziggler will be a good opponent for the US Champion. Ziggler is a great seller – who will do his utmost to make Priest look like a million dollars.

Winning the 2022 Rumble may come too soon for Priest however there is no reason why he should not win WWE Money In The Bank in July and successfully cash in on whoever the world champion is on either brand before next is over.

A feud with Big E over the WWE Title on Raw or Roman Reigns’ Universal Title on SmackDown would represent fresh matches fans want to see. No disrespect to E – Priest against Reigns has money written all over it.

Next. Fans are behind Damian Priest, and rightfully so.. dark

Priest has everything McMahon likes in a superstar. He is tall, handsome, has a good physique, charismatic and athletic – only something catastrophic can stop the master of Hit The Lights from reaching the top of WWE. When he eventually does – he will be one step closer to having his name “live forever”.
