At WWE’s Day 1, we were supposed to see the next chapter in the story of Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. Instead, we were treated to a shocking title change and seemingly the beginning of a new story between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship. With Brock Lesnar now entangled in two different storylines on two different shows, for two different championships, this places him in an interesting position as the road to Wrestlemania begins to take shape.

After being inserted into the WWE Championship match, Brock Lesnar dominated for almost the entirety of it hitting multiple F5s and suplexes on all competitors except for Bobby Lashley. In fact, Lashley got the upper hand on Lesnar every time they collided and almost made him tap out to the Hurt Lock, seemingly planting the seeds for an eventual main event caliber WWE Championship match between the two.

Striking while the iron is hot would be the right call here especially with the Royal Rumble being just under a month away. A WWE Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley taking place at the Royal Rumble would surely make the event a must-watch for all fans who have been wanting to see this match for many years.

But the main event storyline between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns just got a little bit more interesting coming out of Day 1. Assuming these two continue their feud into the main event of Wrestlemania 38, could we see a title unification match to determine the true champion of the WWE? Essentially ending the brand split and establishing one world champion would make a lot of sense with the top of the card being smaller than ever given the WWE’s continuing inability to build to new top stars as credible challengers for world championships.

As for the Royal Rumble, why not do something completely different this year with Wrestlemania being two nights and headlined by two major matches? Have the title unification match in the main event of Night 1 of Wrestlemania between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns and then have the winner go on to face the winner of the Royal Rumble on Night 2; similar to what we saw in NJPW this past year’s event of WrestleKingdom 15.

Brock Lesnar as WWE Champion will surely give a much-needed boost to Monday Night Raw especially if headlined by a storyline between him and Bobby Lashley. On the other side of things, continuing the story between Lesnar, Roman Reigns, and Paul Heyman now around a world title unification match would be the biggest possible way to culminate this incredible story on the biggest stage possible. Whichever route the WWE decides to take on the road to Wrestlemania this year, things have certainly become more intriguing coming out of Day 1.
