Impact Knockouts Champion, Mickie James, is taking part in the 2022 edition of the Women’s Royal Rumble.

During Friday’s edition of SmackDown, Charlotte Flair announced the participants for this year’s event. James was among the individuals named. Moments later, Pat McAfee mentioned her title by name and the WWE later tweeted that she will be in the event, calling her the Impact Knockouts Champion.

This was a stunning announcement because the WWE rarely mentions any other promotions in the professional wrestling industry. Plus, James was one of many individuals recently released, and she did not have the greatest things to say about her placement in the company after being let go.

Since then, James has been a vital piece in the growth of women’s wrestling outside of the WWE. She was a central figure in the NWA’s Empowerrr event that featured an all-women’s card and performers from multiple organizations.

She’s held the Impact Knockouts Championship for 77-days, winning the belt back at Impact Bound for Glory where she defeated long-time champion, Deonna Purrazzo. Since then, she’s defended the belt against Keira Hogan, Mercedes Martinez, and Madison Rayne.
