WWE SmackDown Results Jan 7: Reigns/Lesnar face-to-face once again!
WWE SmackDown results for January 7, 2022. WWE has announced that the new WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar, will be in the house to confront Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The company confirmed on Thursday that Reigns is cleared to appear following his isolation period after testing positive for Covid-19. The Uso’s will defend the SmackDown Tag Team Titles against King Woods and Sir Kofi in a Street Fight, plus Rick Boogs will battle Sami Zayn.

A recap of the new WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar, and Paul Heyman’s appearance on RAW this past week is shown.
We cross to live the arena and Universal Champion, Roman Reigns makes his way out to the ring. Roman tells New England to acknowledge him. Reigns doesn’t know where to start. Roman says he doesn’t want to see Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman in his life ever again. Lesnar’s music immediately hits and he appears with Paul Heyman. Heyman smiles and tries to do his introduction but Brock takes the mic from him. Lesnar goes face-to-face with Roman Reigns. Brock introduces himself to Reigns as the WWE Champion mimicking Paul Heyman.
Brock tells Roman Reigns to acknowledge him. Brock says last Saturday he got what he wanted the WWE Title. Lesnar suggests a Title vs. Title match. Reigns says that it is a good idea, but he says it isn’t his idea. Reigns says this is his show. Roman says he doesn’t do business with people who do business with trash like Paul Heyman. Heyman doesn’t understand why Roman speaks to him that why, and claims he is the reason why Roman is Universal Champion. Heyman says he loved Roman Reigns. Lesnar then cuts him off and asks what he just said. Heyman continues and Brock tells him to shut up. Roman then tells Brock not to talk to Heyman that way. Heyman tries to get in the middle and tries to speak again but Brock reminds him of what he just said as Roman delivers a Superman Punch to Lesnar!
Backstage interview with Sami Zayn. Zayn says it’s been a year since he was robbed of the Intercontinental Championship. Zayn claims Nakamura is ducking him. He claims Boogs is no match for him. He then sees Johnny Knoxville backstage. Knoxville says he’s campaigning to be in the Royal Rumble match. Zayn says as the locker room leader that this isn’t Jackass and that he isn’t qualified. Zayn says if he should show him something, then maybe he would qualify.
Rick Boogs vs. Sami Zayn
Rick Boogs shows off his strength to the delight of the WWE Universe manhandling Sami Zayn in the early stages. The end of the match came when Rick Boogs rolled up Sami Zayn to pick up the victory. Sami was trying to trash talk to Shinsuke Nakamura which resulted in Boogs taking advantage.
Winner: Rick Boogs
After the match, Johnny Knoxville entered the ring and sent Sami Zayn over the top rope. It is then announced that Knoxville has qualified for the Men’s Royal Rumble match. It is also shown that Rey Mysteriom, Dominik Mysterio, Austin Theory, and The Street Profits have already declared for the match.
Backstage, King Woods and Sir Kofi are interviewed. The New Day says they will deliver a royal beating to The Uso’s tonight. The New Day says they will come out of the match as the SmackDown Tag Team Champions and royally laugh.
SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair, comes to the ring. Flair wishes everyone a Happy New Year. She says her New Years Resolutions make history. Flair bigs up the Women’s Royal Rumble match. Charlotte reveals the competitors in the match and video package plays to reveal the entrants including The Bella Twins, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly, IMPACT Knockouts Champion Mickie James, Summer Rae, and Lita all returning for the match. Charlotte Flair makes a special announcement that she will also be in the Women’s Royal Rumble match. She says she will be the first champion to enter the Royal Rumble and choose her match. Naomi then makes her way out. Naomi says she can choose to face her right now. Flair questions what Naomi has done to deserve a match against her. Naomi says she knows she’s done this, and then slaps the champion. Flair goes after her, but Naomi sends her crashing out of the ring.
SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair vs. Naomi in a non-title match
Both women find themselves fighting on the outside. WWE Official Sonya Deville comes out to announce that the match cannot be won via count-out, preventing Naomi from picking up the win over Charlotte who remained outside of the ring on the referee’s count. Sonya again midway through to say that the only way to win the match is via pinfall or submission. Naomi has had plenty of offense in the match and is being presented as a real contender. Flair eventually picks up the victory with the Natural Selection, however, Naomi should have won it earlier with the count-out. A great match, regardless of the shenanigans.
Winner: SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair
Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews The Uso’s. The Uso’s say what happened at Day 1 is happening again tonight. They say The New Day will find out why they call The Uso’s the ones.
Backstage, Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville are taking. Pearce says WWE wants Roman Reigns to have an opponent for the Royal Rumble. It’s down to Peace to choose by the end of the night.
Happy Corbin’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring for a special edition of Happy Talk. Corbin welcomes everyone to Happy Talk. He says thank you to all the happy heads for coming out tonight. Corbin shows a video from Day 1 of Corbin and Madcap Moss attacking Drew McIntyre backstage. Corbin laughs and says it makes him incredibly happy. Corbin says he thought the attack on Drew would take him out for months but he is there tonight. He then introduces him but it is Madcap Moss dressed up as him walking down with a neck brace and walking stick. Corbin then interviews Madcap who pretends to be Drew. Both men then laugh at each other. The Viking Raiders then appear and run down to the ring.
The Viking Raiders vs. Happy Corbin & Madcap Moss
The match is already underway as we return from a commercial break. Corbin and Moss are firmly in control. Madcap Moss eventually picks up the win for his team using his finisher the Punch Line.
Winners: Happy Corbin & Madcap Moss
Michael Cole discusses that Drew McIntyre will be seeing a specialist after suffering a legitimate injury on Saturday.
A backstage promo is shown by Sheamus who discusses Ridge Holland breaking his nose on Day 1. Sheamus says he is entering the Royal Rumble match.
Backstage, Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, is joined by Adam Pearce. Pearce says he has chosen Reigns’ next opponent. Reigns says he can choose who he likes because he’s beaten everyone on SmackDown. He then tells Pearce to leave so he can watch his cousins.
The Uso’s vs. King Woods & Sir Kofi for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship in a Street Fight
The match begins in the ring, but as we return from the commercial they are now fighting on the stage and entrance ramp. When the action returns to the ring, The Uso’s duck tape King Woods left arm to the ring ropes, but Sir Kofi eventually free’s him. The Uso’s introduce the steel steps outside of the ring as they take out both Kofi and Woods with the steps, with Woods being taken out in amongst the fans. Towards the end of the match, the fans chant for tables, and The New Day introduces a table. The Uso’s win delivering a 1D through the table.
Winners: Still SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Uso’s
Backstage, there is a knock on the door in Roman’s room. Seth Rollins appears and laughs as Roman looks angry. It appears Adam Pearce has chosen Seth Rollins to be Reigns’ opponent for the Royal Rumble.
