Wrestling Rumor Roundup: Brock Lesnar changed plans in 2017 and more
By Amit Shukla
Professional wrestling is always filled with the hottest of takes, biggest rumors, and sometimes shocking news breaks. This week, we look at some rumors within the WWE surrounding Brock Lesnar’s plans, Carmella, Big E, and more.
Brock Lesnar didn’t want to work with Jinder Mahal in 2017
Do you remember the famous ECW promo by Paul Heyman where he told JBL that the only reason John is a champion is that Triple H didn’t want to work Tuesdays? Nothing can replace that vibe, and neither can anyone question Brock Lesnar’s decision to not work with Jinder Mahal in 2017 during the Survivor Series event. It is why AJ Styles won the WWE title a second time during a live event in Manchester, and then Styles vs Lesnar became an instant classic.
Dave Meltzer discussed this during a recent WOR. Jinder Mahal was rising the ranks, but he wasn’t the right fit or at the level to fight Brock Lesnar at that time in his career. He is still trying to prove his mettle and keeps going back and forth from TV. Brock Lesnar does the same too, but you can’t compare the two as Mahal is no match to The Beast Incarnate with no offense to Jinder or his talent.
Would Big E be defeated at WWE Day 1?
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer reported on Sports Illustrated that the original plan for Big E changed after Brock Lesnar was added to the WWE title fatal four-way match at WWE Day 1. According to the revered journalist, Seth Rollins would dethrone the champion, and it was a commendable choice.
Seth Rollins is a superstar to rely on, and Rollins defeating Big E on the first day of the year would set the tone for a fight between the two at The Shows of Shows. They are experts on the mic and can run a story for close to four months or 12 weeks. The fight would have set the stage for an encounter to sell tickets.
Will The Phenomenal One leave soon?
Wrestling experts know that AJ Styles’ contract would expire in 2022. On the other hand, WrestlingNews.Co reports that The Phenomenal One has signed a three-year deal with the WWE. It’s great news as we wouldn’t see him leave for another promotion at this time of his career.
He got the correct treatment since his entry into the WWE, and there seems to be no reason for him to leave the promotion. He knows the team well and has worked well with superstars that are smaller in size than him. AJ Styles helped Omos become a household name and is currently working in NXT to help others. He needs to be with the promotion because his experience and expertise can create the next generation of superstars.
Women’s Tag Team Champion dealing with injuries
As per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Carmella is nursing injuries, but she has kept it under the wraps and is trying to avoid in-ring competition. Despite being a second-generation superstar, Carmella may need some lessons in wrestling. She needs no knowledge in keeping things secret.
Carmella has done quality work, but it isn’t up to her potential. She needs to work on the developmental brand, and maybe it will help her become a better performer. Mandy Rose got lost in the storylines on the main roster, but her movement to NXT has helped her become credible. Her change to the main roster at this juncture or in future will be with excitement.
Drew McIntyre may be back in time for WrestleMania
According to Dave Meltzer of WON, Drew McIntyre’s neck was bothering him where he may have required surgery. The backstage attack by Baron Corbin and Madcap Moss after the Day 1 match was the perfect way to give him time off. McIntyre fought the most in 2021, 95 to be exact, and he needs some time off with the family and the comfort of his abode than the wrestling ring.
The return will make the moment spectacular, and after a quality storyline with Corbin, McIntyre can start the story again with Corbin. It would help both superstars, and this hiatus will be a breath of fresh air.
