WWE SmackDown Results live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. WWE has announced that The Bloodline will acknowledge Roman Reigns’ record-setting Universal Championship reign as he surpasses Brock Lesnar’s 503-day reign. Naomi will get a rematch against SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair, and Kofi Kingston will get a rematch against Madcap Moss.
WWE SmackDown Results – January 21, 2022
The show opens with a recap of Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins’ confrontation from last week, and then The Uso’s appearance on RAW this week.
The SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Uso’s, are already in the ring as we kick-off. They say that The Bloodline is now in Nashville. They say they are there here tonight to celebrate the longest reigning Universal Champion ever. They go through past Universal Champions who never had a longer reign than Roman. They then introduce The Tribal Chief.
Roman looks around the arena and tells Nashville to acknowledge him. The Uso’s then introduce video package highlighting Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship reign. Roman is smiling as they return from the video. Before he can speak again, Seth “Freakin” Rollins makes his way out. Rollins says what kind of party would it be without him. Rollins says that they should celebrate that his title reign is going to come to an end very soon. Rollins reminds Roman of what he said last week about him being responsible for his success. He mentions The Uso’s turning up to RAW on Monday. Rollins says Roman could have just texted him. Seth says we should also be celebrating the longest-reigning SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Uso’s. Rollins says they hold The Bloodline up just as he and Mox did in The Shield.
Roman questions Seth if John Cena wrote that promo for him because he keeps repeating the same stuff. Roman says it will be a one-on-one match at the Royal Rumble. Rollins says he doesn’t believe him. Seth tells him to put his money where his mouth is. Seth says he will find a partner tonight to take on The Uso’s and if he wins then The Uso’s are barred from ringside during their title match at the Royal Rumble. The Uso’s accept. The Uso’s say there’s nobody crazy enough backstage to team with him so they’re good. Kevin Owens music then hits and Rollins has found his partner.
Roman says to cut the stupid music now. Roman says it isn’t final until The Tribal Chief says so. Roman says he wants to raise the stakes and says if Seth loses the match then he loses his shot at the Royal Rumble and he’s going on vacation until WrestleMania. Rollins accepts and the main event is set for tonight.
Madcap Moss and Happy Corbin are in the ring when we return from a commercial. Corbin talks about them taking out Drew and Moss defeating Kofi last week. Moss says he’s nothing without Woods. Moss then tells a joke about a Garth Brooks cover band. Kofi then makes his introduction before he introduces Big E. Michael Cole says because of the Rumble next week, the brand split is pretty much redundant.
Madcap Moss w/ Happy Corbin vs. Sir Kofi Kingston w/ Big E
Kofi is on top and delivers a Boom Drop early on. Kofi gets the fans clapping The New Day chant before Madcap Moss takes him out from behind following a distraction from Happy Corbin. Kofi shows off his agility outside of the ring flying over the steel steps onto Moss. Corbin tries to get involved but Big E takes him out. Eventually, Sir Kofi Kingston picks up the victory following a spinning boot to the face.
Winner: Sir Kofi Kingston w/ Big E via pinfall
After the match, Corbin retreats from Big E as he delivers a Big Ending to Madcap Moss in the middle of the ring.
A video package is then shown of Aliyah breaking the WWE match record last week by defeating Natalya in 3.17 seconds.
Aliyah vs. Natalya
We have a rematch from last week. Summer Rae, who is returning to compete in the Women’s Royal Rumble match, is shown sitting at ringside and is introduced just before the match begins. Natalya immediately takes control of the match, but Aliyah manages to score two pinfalls to try and cause an upset once again but Natalya kicks out each time. The match is eventually stopped as Natalya would not stop her stomps on Aliyah in the corner.
Winner: Aliyah by disqualification
After the match, Natalya goes to attack Aliyah once more before Xia Li’s music hits. “The Protector” has returned with her super cool entrance. She hits the ring and attacks Natalya sending her out of the ring. Xia Li then helps Aliyah.
Michael Cole says WrestleMania 38 is 10 weeks away as Pat McAfee reads out what the word stupendous means, which is in the tagline for this year’s two-night show. Cole says news about WrestleMania week will be revealed on Monday.
Los Lotharios vs. The Viking Raiders
The Viking Raiders hit an early double-team on Humberto Carrillo before Los Lotharios responded with their own double-team to take control of the match. Ivar regains control for his team as the match picks up some momentum, but Angel counters him into a Powerbomb as Ivar kicks out of the pin. In the end, The Raiders hit the Viking Experience on Carrillo for the win.

SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair vs. Naomi in a Championship Contender’s match
Before the match begins, WWE Official, Sonya Deville, enters the ring and tells the referee, Charles Robinson, to take off his referee shirt. Sonya takes the shirt and puts it on as she rings the bell. As the bell rings, Flair smacks Naomi right in the face. Once again, Naomi is not going to get a fair match. Midmatch, Naomi sends Charlotte crashing into Sonya who gets sent out of the ring. Naomi then had Charlotte covered as Sonya refused to return to the ring. Charlotte then locks Naomi into the Figure Eight Leglock and Sonya immediately rings the bell before she even taps out.
Winner: SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair
Backstage, Kayla interviews Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens. Owens says if it wasn’t for The Uso’s, Kevin Owens would be the longest Universal Champion of all time. Owens then calls Rollins his best friend. Rollins says in this situation tonight, the risks are worth the rewards.
Sami Zayn’s music then hits and he makes his way to the ring. We have another edition of In-Zayn as he is going to outdo Johnny Knoxville’s most famous stunt. Kid Rock is shown at ringside before we get underway. Zayn starts by saying Knoxville first got noticed before Jackass for self-defense weapons on himself. Zayn says he’s going to do it himself right now. He starts with an electronic stick that at high voltage can take down a Rhino. Sami uses it on the first level and it shocks him and reacts like it hurt but says it was a piece of cake. He then tries level two. He says level two made Knoxville unconscious for 15-minutes. Zayn says he’s going to try it on his heart. It shocks him again and sends him crashing into the ropes.
Johnny Knoxville then makes his way to the ring. Knoxville says Zayn was so concerned about him making a mockery of his profession when Sami is making a mockery of his. Knoxville says something seems off. Knoxville takes the electronic stick and says it is real but it wasn’t turned on. Knoxville then pokes Zayn with it and it takes him down with a big shock. Zayn is then laying on the top rope and Knoxville tells him he will see him in the Men’s Royal Rumble match, then sends him over the top rope.
Backstage, Adam Pearce is with Eric Bischoff. Bischoff is giving Adam Pearce some advice. Sonya Deville walks in and Pearce introduces her. Pearce says Sonya stepped out of line tonight and he and Eric think it is affecting her leadership. Pearce is speaking with upper management to make a match between Sonya and Naomi next week. Sonya says to let her know as she leaves. Bischoff tells Adam Peace that was leadership.

Sheamus w/ Ridge Holland vs. Ricochet
Ridge Holland is back following his nose break at WWE Day 1. Sheamus takes some immediate dominance in the match as Ridge tells him to give Ricochet some payback for breaking his nose on January 1. Midway through the match, Ricochet went through the middle rope to dive on Ricochet, but Sheamus nailed him with the knee. Sheamus then ends the match in the ring with a devastating Brogue Kick.
Winner: Sheamus via pinfall
Backstage, Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, is shown discussing tactics with the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Uso’s.
Backstage, Intercontinental Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Rick Boogs are walking backstage as they bump into Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett tells Boogs he plays a mighty fine guitar. Jeff asks for Rick’s name and he says Rick BOOGS. Jarrett then asks him if he can spell that out for him.
Next week, it will be Naomi vs. Sonya Deville and Sir Kofi & Big E vs. Happy Corbin & Madcap Moss.
SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Uso’s vs. Seth Rollins & Kevin Owens, if Seth & Owens lose then Rollins’ championship match is canceled at Royal Rumble, and Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, will go on vacation until WrestleMania. If The Uso’s lose, they are banned from ringside at the Royal Rumble
Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, is shown watching closely backstage. The Uso’s take control of the opening stages of the match laying the beat down on Seth Rollins. Rollins eventually tags in a fired-up Kevin Owens, however, The Uso’s manage to take advantage once again as we head to commercial. As we return from the commercial, Kevin Owens is looking for the hot tag and ultimately makes it tagging in Seth “Freakin” Rollins. At the end of the match, Rollins was ready to deliver The Stomp, but Roman Reigns appeared and hit a Superman Punch to end the contest via DQ.
Winners: Seth Rollins & Kevin Owens via disqualification, meaning The Uso’s are banned from ringside during the Universal Championship match at the Royal Rumble
