Wrestling Rumor Roundup: Drew McIntyre return, Superstar leaving WWE and more
By Amit Shukla
There are always a lot of news and rumors swirling around professional wrestling. Each week, we’ll take a look at the biggest pieces of information from the media members that cover the industry. This week’s content looks at rumors about Drew McIntyre, Asuka, Roderick Strong, and more.
Vince plans to push a new star
Vince McMahon and Austin Theory continue to stay linked at the hip with their weekly segments. It was clear that Theory has caught the attention of the WWE’s leader and that continues as his momentum builds. McMahon plans to push Austin Theory, and as per WrestlingNews.co’s source in WWE, he may be amongst the final five in the Royal Rumble match.
If this is true, it’s a big win for Theory already. Impressing Vince seems impossible, but he may have cut the forbidden way, not the door to be in McMahon’s good graces. It will be interesting to see how this story plays out for Theory’s career.
Is another WWE superstar leaving the company?
It seems as if Roderick Strong’s place on WWE NXT has quickly changed as the brand turns a new corner. WWE has released plenty of superstars who have gone to rival promotions, and according to insider sport, we may be on our way to see a new superstar walk out of the WWE and into a new company.
It would be a big blow for the WWE. Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Riley, and Adam Cole of The Undisputed Era have already joined Vince’s rival promotion. Roderick Strong leaving the company will create a void of a well-established veteran on the NXT roster.
Will no one be ready for Asuka soon?
According to Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men Podcast, Asuka is ready for return. We don’t know if she will return at this year’s Royal Rumble or on a different date. Rumors of various superstars returning at the show are doing the rounds, so believing anyone would be like adding fuel to the fire.
Asuka has the longest winning streak in the women’s division, and she held the NXT Women’s Championship for the longest time. She also won the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble Match and has a career that most female superstars want in their WWE career. Her return will entice the Raw women’s division. It lacks some tough competition.
Is Drew McIntyre rushing his return to WrestleMania?
According to Dave Meltzer of WON, Dave Meltzer is nursing a neck injury and is taking the 2007 John Cena route to heal and return by or before WrestleMania. He served as the company’s face during the pandemic. Drew is a credible opponent to challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
While a quick return is good, it shouldn’t hamper Drew’s health in the long run. Wrestling takes a toll on your body, and in the hopes of a quick return, we hope Drew doesn’t hamper his well-being. His delayed return wouldn’t hamper anything, but if the quick ring return makes a moment of concern for him, then it’s a risk he should avoid at all costs.
