AEW Dynamite: Preview and Predictions for February 23, 2022
AEW Dynamite is back this Wednesday and will be broadcast live on TBS from Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Last week, AEW started its post-Cody era and did so with a highly entertaining episode of their flagship program.
And as huge of a loss as Cody Rhodes is to AEW, in the span of two hours the promotion reminded us that they were going to be just fine moving forward on the strength of present stars and a plethora of talent that are sure to be stars of the future.
Last week’s episode also set up a number of matches for the upcoming Revolution pay-per-view, and on paper, the card is already set up to be an early frontrunner for pay-per-view of the year.
This week’s episode is sure to continue to add to Revolution’s card as we move towards the March 6th show.
Let’s take a look at the announced matches for this week’s AEW Dynamite and what to expect from each.
Kings of the Black Throne vs Penta El Zero Miedo & Pac
Brody King and Malakai Black will take on Pac and Penta El Zero Miedo in a rematch from a couple of weeks ago, but we may see a different version of Penta, as teased in recent vignettes.
The Kings of the Black Throne should continue to be booked strongly here as they are ranked in the top five tag teams in AEW and it looks like they are going to continue to work as a team on a regular basis, where Penta and Pac most likely will not.
The fact that we saw this exact same matchup two weeks ago is very unlike AEW as they do an excellent job of keeping their matchups fresh. When they do go with rematches it is usually to add a new element into the feud, and on Wednesday they will do just that.
After the match Buddy Matthews (fka Buddy Murphy) will most likely debut as the third member of the House of Black and a post-match beatdown of Pac and Penta will ensue.
This will also bring the return of Rey Fenix to make the save and will most likely set up and 6 man tag team match at the upcoming Revolution. Winners: Kings of the Black Throne
Tag Team Battle Royale for a spot in the 3-Way Tag Team Title Match at Revolution
It was revealed on last week’s Dynamite that Jurassic Express would be defending the tag belts in a three-way tag-team match at Revolution. And how those spots would be filled is two tag team battle royales with the winner of each earning a spot.
The teams competing will be as follows: Silver & Reynolds, 2.0, Santana & Ortiz, FTR, The Young Bucks, ReDRagon, Private Party, Best Friends, Butcher & Blade, and the Gunn Club.
There are a number of deserving tag teams that could very easily win these battle royales and move onto a title shot at Revolution. Santana & Ortiz, FTR, Private Party, Best Friends are all very capable of delivering a high-quality match at the pay-per-view.
But this feels like the perfect setup to advance the storyline between Adam Cole, the Young Bucks, ReDRagon, and a returning Kenny Omega at Revolution.
So expect ReDragon to come out on top in this first Battle Royale, and to be joined by the Young Bucks at the next one. Winners: ReDRagon
The Bunny vs Jade Cargill in a TBS Title Match
Jade Cargill will put her TBS Title and her perfect record on the line when she faces The Bunny.
AEW has really been pushing Jade’s undefeated record lately, as it has grown to 27-0, and tracking that record brings back memories of Goldberg’s undefeated run in WCW.
And while there is no way that Jade will come close to the 173 straight wins mark that Goldberg obtained, she should definitely increase her number of wins significantly from where it is now before she drops the title.
What the number will be before Jade drops the title is anyone’s guess. But it should not be anytime in the near future. AEW should continue to build her up until she has at least 50 wins before they even think about taking that TBS Title off of Cargill.
In the Bunny, Jade will be facing a pro wrestling veteran who will test her. This should be a competitive match that allows Jade to show off all of her offense against an opponent that is a good seller and will make her look great.
Predictably, in the end, The Bunny will just be another victim of Jade Cargill, as AEW continues to build yet another star in the continuously improving TBS Champion. Winner: Jade Cargill
