WWE SmackDown is heading into WWE WrestleMania 38. On this week’s episode, there were two scheduled segments — Brock Lesnar v. Roman Reigns Contract Signing and Sami Zayn Intercontinental Championship Celebration — as well as one scheduled match: Drew McIntyre vs. Madcap Moss. There are already two WWE SmackDown-affiliated matches scheduled for WrestleMania 38: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Brock Lesnar for both the WWE Title and the Universal Title and Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Title.

With that being addressed, the following will cover three major takeaways from this episode of WWE SmackDown.

WWE SmackDown took place on February 25, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT live on FOX. Here are three major takeaways from this week’s show.

1.) The New Day vs. Los Lotharios Stole The Show

Even though their rematches are unnecessary and barely develop any storylines whatsoever, The New Day and Los Lotharios have that “fight forever” feel due to their impeccable in-ring abilities and unforeseen chemistry.

These two teams would be suitable additions to the SmackDown Tag Team Championship feud between Usos and Viking Raiders. It would not only make the tag title match unpredictable but can also provide an opportunity to book a special ladder match amongst four of the greatest tag teams in the infinitesimal tag division today.

2.) The Women’s Matches Were Way Too Short Tonight

Xia Li vs. Natalya and Sasha Banks vs. Shotzi Blackheart were less than five minutes combined. Xia Li’s debut and Sasha Banks’ return to the ring should be treated with more respect.

It’s also questionable why the former Team BAD members, Sasha Banks and Naomi, randomly decided to reunite whilst Xia Li and Aliyah were building up a tag team for weeks in their battles against Natalya. It is understandable that Sasha Banks and Naomi should have a spot on the ‘Mania card, but they are top stars who deserve a much better build for their ‘Mania match.

3.) The Sami Zayn Championship Celebration Was Boring

Johnny Knoxville skipped the line for an Intercontinental Championship opportunity whilst a talented midcarder such as Ricochet should have that title shot at WrestleMania. Instead, Ricochet was relegated to getting his Intercontinental Championship opportunity on SmackDown next week.

Shinsuke Nakamura should be in the main event scene, but not even he got his rematch for the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania in what could have been a great rubber match in his long-term feud with Sami Zayn. This is an absolute burial of the midcard.
