On today’s episode of First Take with Stephen A. Smith, HHH gave a health update. It was his first interview since undergoing a procedure last September for a “cardiac event caused by a genetic heart issue.”

Following his procedure, HHH has not been able to resume his previous duties with NXT. Shawn Michaels and Matt Bloom have taken over his duties and NXT has since transformed into NXT 2.0

HHH gives an update on his health.

In a clip from their interview, HHH said he had viral pneumonia and that his lungs were inflamed. “My wife saw some blood that I was coughing up and (I) went and got checked and it was coming from the viral pneumonia, but I had fluid in my lungs, I had some fluid around my heart. They followed up on it and did an EKG and echo and everything and basically, the way your heart pumps out, 55 to 60% of your ejection fraction is a good number. I was at 30.”

He got a text message to go to an emergency room. His ejection fraction was down to 22% and was in heart failure. The next morning, he was going for an MRI and a heart catheter and the number had fallen to twelve. “I was nose-diving and sort of at the one yard line, where you need to be, where you don’t want to be, really.”

He was very concerned because he has three teenage girls. “I don’t know if they understood the consequences of it.” He says as he’s choking up, “Is this it? Do you wake up from this? That’s a tough pill to swallow.”

“I’m done,” HHH confirmed when asked if he could wrestle anymore. “I have a defibrillator in my chest. Probably not a good idea for me to get on live TV.” In the clip shown, he did not provide an update regarding his backstage role.
