WWE: Will Omos’s push continue into the main event post-WrestleMania?
WrestleMania is set for this weekend. There are a lot of big matches and segments planned for the annual showcase. One involves Omos as he doesn’t have a match scheduled, but Fightful Select has reported that his potential opponent will be Bobby Lashley. With plans of Omos’s push continuing after WrestleMania, many have questioned the end game of this booking decision.
Omos fits into the WWE archetype of a giant attraction. Standing at 7’3 and booked as weighing 400 pounds, the Nigerian-American professional wrestling certainly draws the eye. Just like Giant Gonzalez, The Great Khali, and others, WWE can never shy away from putting a massive performer on television for viewers to gawk at.
But where is this going to go in the end? If Omos crushes Lashley this weekend, it’s hard to see fans being more compelled to watch him. To this point, nothing about Omos is an attraction. Even those moments where he was over can be attributed to who he was working with. Being paired with AJ Styles is a benefit to any performer’s career. Even The New Day played a part in his presentation with their match at WrestleMania 37. Still, there’s little that Omos has done on his own to take a step forward as a draw for the promotion.
So where does Omos go? It’s hard to picture him in the main event coming out of WrestleMania. Would fans be attracted to the idea of him facing either Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns for the unified titles? How would Omos work during in-ring action with either of those two men? Perhaps the promotion puts one of the midcard titles on him, but again what purpose does that serve to anyone involved.
If there is a positive to take out of this, is the fact that WWE has shown an ability to be consistent with one’s push. One of many complaints about WWE booking lately is the company’s penchant for starting and stopping with so many individuals on the roster. Omos has not experienced that, as his presence has been consistent since appearing as the doorman for Raw Underground.
The build-up to WrestleMania hasn’t been the strongest, as the card has many concerned about the current state of WWE. Omos will look good at the show and come out with a sustained push on the back end. Is there an endgame in sight is the question and that picture isn’t clear.
