Mixed martial arts and professional wrestling are close bedfellows. The list of names that have jumped between the two includes all-time greats like Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey, plus historical figures like Shayna Baszler and Ken Shamrock. Paige VanZant is a recent star that has stepped out from combat sports into professional wrestling and she may soon be followed by Bellator fighter, Valerie Loureda.

Loureda was at WrestleMania 38 over the weekend, attending a tryout session and making it clear that she could see herself in the world of professional wrestling. She spoke with Helen Yee about the opportunity and what that would mean for her career.

“It’s exciting. I’m not used to this type of world,” Loureda said. “I’m definitely learning a lot and I could definitely see myself being great at it. It’s acting, it’s entertaining, it’s fighting, all the things that I love to put together.”

Mixed martial arts fans may be familiar with Loureda both for her performances in Bellator, but also her often talked about social media posts. Loureda boasts a 4-1 professional record that dates to her debut in 2019. She last competed at Bellator 271 where she picked up a split decision victory over Taylor Turner.

Loureda is frequently the topic of discussions surrounding the idea of sex appeal in mixed martial arts, something that she’s spoken about openly herself. While fans and other fighters openly criticized her for dancing, revealing pictures, and videos, Loureda continues to use that engagement to build a bigger platform for herself, much in the way VanZant was successful during her time in the UFC and after.

“I haven’t spoken to her [VanZant] about it, but I know she’s really good there and I’ve seen her journey,” Loureda said when asked about Paige VanZant. “I know AEW is big and Dan Lambert and I know she’s going to make her name there. I’m just going to ask her questions and see how she does it over there and what she feels and how I can transition that to my path with WWE.”
