Raquel Gonzalez would be a good fit on WWE SmackDown
It’s that time of year when WWE fans can expect to see and hear rumors of roster changes throughout the WWE. Fightful Select reported on Wednesday that LA Knight and Raquel Gonzalez are two individuals that may make their way from WWE NXT 2.0 to the main roster. When looking at all her accolades in NXT and the status of the women’s division on both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown, it’s time for Gonzalez to get moved up to the main roster.
The women’s divisions on both shows need some help. On one hand, Bianca Belair is one of the biggest budding stars in the company. Fans are ready to see her pushed to the moon and beyond. Unfortunately, there is a lack of interesting contenders to send her way. At least it seems like it, as WWE has limited its use of particular performers for no reason. Asuka’s status is currently unknown, while Alexa Bliss hasn’t been seen on television since the Elimination Chamber.
Then there is Charlotte Flair. While she is in the midst of another championship run, overall interest in her time at the top seems to be waning. As she enjoys a 160-plus day term as WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, her match with Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 38 was the first time she defended the belt on a WWE PPV. This falls on WWE’s inability to create any interest for big feuds involving Flair, one of the best wrestlers across the industry today. Even with women like Xia Li, Shotzi Blackheart, and Aliyah on the SmackDown roster, none of those ladies jump off the page as potential opponents in the immediate future.
Gonzalez goes a long way in answering these questions for both women and shows. While the idea of Gonzalez versus Belair is an intriguing matchup, the former WWE NXT Women’s champion should move over to SmackDown instead.
She’s in an odd position in WWE NXT 2.0. She and Dakota Kai were put back into a tag team and defeated Toxic Attraction at Stand & Deliver for the WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team titles, only to lose them days later. As the direction of NXT continues to change, especially in the women’s division, Gonzalez has exceeded what is needed in that group.
Since first debuting with Kai, she’s steadily improved. A big part of that came with her feuds with Kai, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley, Io Shirai, and others along the way. Heading up to the main roster would give her the opportunity to build on what she’s achieved and create some new matches with women like Shayna Baszler, Doudrop, Liv Morgan, and others.
As WWE continues to shuffle around the roster, call-ups from NXT should be expected. Raquel Gonzalez was mentioned among those who may get the change and both the WWE SmackDown and Monday Night Raw women’s rosters need her as a new face sooner, rather than later.
