AEW Dynamite: Preview and Predictions for April 13, 2022
AEW Dynamite is back this Wednesday and will be broadcast live on TBS from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Last week’s AEW Dynamite both started and ended with fantastic matches, with Christian Cage and Adam Cole opening the show, and FTR and the Young Bucks closing it out in epic fashion, with FTR retaining the AAA and ROH Tag Team Titles and evening up their record against the Jackson brothers.
This week’s show offers us a couple of title matches, this time featuring the AEW Tag Team Titles and the Ring of Honor World Television Title being put on the line. MJF will also look to avenge a rare loss on his near-perfect singles record when he takes on Shawn Dean.
A couple of personal grudge matches will take place in the form of tag team matches as well on Wednesday, highlighted by three men who don’t have a lot of appreciation for Chris Jericho getting a match with the Jericho Appreciation Society.
Let’s take a closer look at the five announced matches for this week’s AEW Dynamite.
Shawn Dean vs MJF
After picking up an upset win over Shawn Spears last week, and already owning a disqualification win over MJF, this could be trouble for Shawn Dean.
While it is all but a certainty that Wardlow will make an appearance during the match causing a disruption, do not expect MJF to get rolled up and pinned.
The heels will get some revenge in this one, with an MJF win and a Shawn Spears chair shot shortly thereafter. Winner: MJF
Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs
A feud that has mostly been confined to AEW Rampage will spill over into Dynamite this week when Ricky Starks returns home and joins forces with his Team Tazz teammate Powerhouse Hobbs to take on Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland,
This match should be fun as it involves team members whose styles virtually mirror the style of a competitor on the opposing tag team.
You would be hard-pressed to find two more powerful people in the promotion than Keith Lee and Powerhouse Hobbs, And Ricky Starks and Swerve Strickland are both extremely charismatic personalities that have a legit chance to be main-eventing AEW pay-per-views in the not too distant future.
This match could go either way and whatever the outcome, it is unlikely that the feud between these four men ends here.
Starks already owns a singles win over Strickland so it is hard to see Swerve eating another pinfall here. And with Starks wrestling in his hometown, I am going to guess that he isn’t taking the pin either.
So that leaves us with Lee and Hobbs. And this isn’t the place that Lee takes his first pin either. Look for Keith Lee to pin Powerhouse Hobbs and get the win for the babyfaces. Winners: Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland
Samoa Joe vs Minoru Suzuki for the Ring of Honor World Television Title
This should be a fun match featuring two of the toughest individuals in professional wrestling.
Less than two weeks ago, Minoru Suzuki would capture his first-ever title on U.S soil by defeating Rhett Titus at ROH’s Supercard of Honor.
But the fact that Suzuki is not under contract with AEW all but ensures that he is a transitional champion.
Couple that with the fact that Samoa Joe is actually under contract with AEW and the outcome seems clear. It makes no sense for an AEW talent to lose to someone that is unsigned with the promotion and it makes no sense for Joe to lose in his second AEW match.
This should be quick and violent. In the end, Samoa Joe will be your new Ring of Honor World Television Champion. Winner: Samoa Joe
Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz vs Chris Jericho, Jake Hager & Daniel Garcia
After a couple of weeks of brawls, Eddie Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz will get their hands on the Jericho Appreciation Society in a six-man tag team match.
Where the JAS has had the numbers advantage in anything-goes brawls, a sanctioned match is a great opportunity for the babyfaces to get a measure of revenge.
And while Matt Menard and Angelo Parker will most likely be hanging around ringside this still feels like a spot where Kingston and company should come out victorious.
But even if they do, it is hard to see where this program ends. When Santana, Ortiz, and Kingston win on Wednesday they will most likely catch a post-match beatdown afterward, bringing us right back to square one in a feud that already feels like it has been going on forever. Winners: Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz
ReDRagon vs Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus for the AEW Tag Team Titles
The AEW Tag Team Titles will be on the line when Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus take on Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly, better known as ReDRagon.
There are a couple of interesting things about this match. Is the frustration we saw from Christian last week going to be unleashed on his friends this week? With Adam Cole challenging “Hangman” Adam Page again for the AEW World Title two days later on AEW Rampage, can the faction take suffering losses in both matches and still be taken seriously?
While it is conceivable that Cole could dethrone Page at Rampage, it is not likely. And if ReDRagon is to come up short here in their quest to win the tag titles then it is going to be hard to look at this group as a legitimate contender for any title for while.
Add to that how immensely over FTR is currently and there should be some serious thought given by Tony Khan to have FTR win the AEW Tag Titles at Double or Nothing, and when they do so, they should win them from a heel team.
So all signs point towards a title change here. The only question is will Christian Cage do something to cause it or will ReDRagon win it on their own accord? Winners: ReDRagon
