AEW Dynamite: Three Year Anniversary Show Preview and Predictions
AEW: Dynamite is back this Wednesday and will be broadcast live on TBS from Las Vegas, Nevada. This Wednesday’s show will mark the three-year anniversary of AEW’s existence and they will celebrate in style with a stacked match card on the final Dynamite before Double or Nothing on Sunday.
With the majority of the Double or Nothing card already announced, this week’s Dynamite episode will put some finishing touches on storylines heading into the pay-per-view and should go a long way towards creating even more excitement for the highly anticipated show.
Let’s take a look at the announced segments and matches on this week’s AEW Dynamite, and what to expect from each.
Jungle Boy vs Swerve Strickland vs Ricky Starks
Before Jurassic Express defends the AEW World Tag Team Titles at Double or Nothing, one member of each team will meet in a three-way match on Dynamite when Jungle Boy goes up against Ricky Starks and Swerve Strickland.
Both the AEW Tag Team Title match on Sunday and this three-way match on Dynamite are completely up for grabs and it is anyone’s guess who might grab the victory.
The underlying storyline with this program has been Christian’s impatience with Jungle Boy and his seemingly impending turn on Jurassic Express. That seems like too big of a spot for this match, so the Christian heel turn will most likely happen at the pay-per-view.
To get to that spot, it makes the most sense if Jungle Boy takes another loss here. To who, it doesn’t really matter, but let’s go with Ricky Starks. Winner: Ricky Starks
FTR vs Roppongi Vice for the ROH Tag Team Titles
After a bit of a singles run for Dax Harwood, he will join back up with Cash Wheeler to defend their ROH Tag Team Titles against Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero, Roppongi Vice.
This should be a really fun match between four very good in-ring performers. But even as good as Roppongi Vice is, FTR is just on another level right now.
There is no reason to take the ROH Tag Titles off of FTR in the foreseeable future. In fact, after winning this match, FTR should set their sights on the AEW Tag Team Titles as they continue their best Kenny Omega belt collector impression. Winners: FTR
Samoa Joe vs Kyle O’Reilly in an Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Semifinal
Samoa Joe and Kyle O’Reilly will go one-on-one for the right to take on Adam Cole at Double or Nothing in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
This match seems set up for a Samoa Joe win as that sets up an interesting babyface versus heel match with Cole for the pay-per-view.
However, with Kyle O’Reilly being part of a faction with Cole, a Cole-O’Reilly match would be quite interesting as well as it could create further friction among the ranks of the Undisputed Elite. With Kenny Omega’s return on the horizon, issues between Cole and O’Reilly could create some compelling storylines moving forward.
But as Samoa Joe is yet to lose in AEW and is very over with the fans, Samoa Joe will pick up a hard-earned win on Wednesday and earn a spot on the pay-per-view card. Winner: Samoa Joe
Adam Page and CM Punk face-to-face
Champion and challenger will come face-to-face on Dynamite when CM Punk and Adam Page will get their last words, and maybe more in ahead of Double or Nothing.
“Hangman” and Punk haven’t done much but exchange some words and staredowns in the build to their showdown on Sunday, and this will most likely be their last chance to do so.
It is possible that these two come to blows on Wednesday, but there is something to be said about no physicality happening between two high-level wrestlers until the actual upcoming match.
Expect more barbs back and forth between these two and another intense staredown as they continue the build to their upcoming match.
Toni Storm vs Britt Baker in an Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Semifinal
In what is one of the most anticipated matches of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, Britt Baker and Toni Storm will square off to try to secure a spot in the finals of the tournament at Double or Nothing.
This is a tough match to call. The winner here will face the winner of the Ruby Soho and Kris Statlander match, which will take place Friday on Rampage. Any four of these women could win their semifinal match and go on to win the first-ever Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
Britt Baker is a legit star and AEW might decide that they need to remind everyone of her greatness by having her win this match.
But the smart play is to use Baker to put over Toni Storm and help to elevate her to the top of the AEW women’s division. Winner: Toni Storm
Shawn Spears vs Wardlow in a Steel Cage with Special Referee, MJF
In the last stipulation that Wardlow needs to meet before getting his match with MJF, Wardlow will have to accomplish the near-impossible when he battles Shawn Spears in a steel cage with MJF participating in the match as a special guest referee.
With any other referee in this match, this would basically be a squash for Wardlow, but MJF is the wild card that evens the odds for Spears.
It is hard to imagine MJF making the three count that secures his own fate in a match with Wardlow at Double or Nothing. But somehow, someway, Wardlow is going to make it happen and head into pay-per-view with a ton of momentum and looking to get out from under the employ of MJF. Winner: Wardlow
