It’s been a few days since the debacle of Monday Night Raw where Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out amid issues with planned creative. So many different narratives and angles have been concocted since, with hard lines drawn in the sand to either support the women or denounce their actions. There was still the question of what will to happen with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Even though WWE announced a tournament, it looks like that idea is off the table. If that is the case, this development proves the point that Banks and Naomi held over concern for the direction of their run as tag champions.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there are no plans for the tournament to go forward. This makes perfect sense because there are only two teams on the main roster, Natalya, and Shayna Baszler on one side, and Nikki ASH paired with Doudrop.

“That women’s tag tournament is like dead now. Yeah, not a word,” Meltzer said. “They had an idea for four women’s teams whatever they end up being. It was pitched but never signed off on as of like a week ago. Now, I have no idea what’s going on, it’s like not a word.”

So, instead of heading Banks and Naomi’s concerns about them being used in propping up the individual champions, WWE has suspended them both, without pay and potentially folding the division.

Before some fans try to blame that on Banks and Naomi, this is an organization deciding to fold an entire division just to spite two women. This would never happen with any of the titles on the men’s side of things. WWE has consistently failed to properly book the women’s divisions, not giving them the same level of care as the men are shown. This situation is yet another glaring example of that problem.

There are several things the WWE could do to make this situation right. Perhaps fold the tag titles into the NXT Women’s Tag Titles, allowing the belts to float from one brand to another like they were originally meant to do. WWE NXT has a plethora of talented women that are growing on the brand. Using the belts to introduce more of them to the main roster, while also potentially having women like Baszler and Nikki ASH go back to NXT for brief runs would help everyone involved.

Instead of taking steps to help the division and the organization, the leadership in WWE would rather send a message and further denigrate two of the most popular women in wrestling.

WWE is truly proving a lot of its critics right with their treatment of Sasha Banks and Naomi during this whole ordeal. But things are going a step further with the titles potentially going away, a move that would not help anyone involved and further the talk about WWE’s mismanagement of their talented women’s divisions, proving Banks and Naomi right along the way.
