Roman Reigns’ absence is being felt through the entire WWE. Hell in a Cell has come and gone, but there’s no clarity on when Reigns will return to defend the two titles he’s holding over his shoulders. There isn’t a clear bet on who will be the one to eventually defeat him and bring the belts back to active competition, but with his win over Omos at the PPV, Bobby Lashley stands out as a candidate perfect for the job.

Lashley’s latest run in the WWE should be seen as a success. With MVP by his side, he’s become a two-time champion and was one of the main focal points of the company throughout the COVID-19 era and since. The shoulder injury that brought his latest title run to an end at Elimination Chamber cut into his momentum, with many wondering where he would go as WWE turned their focus to Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns and very little else.

But the reaction to Lashley’s victory over Omos and MVP showed that he’s still over with the WWE Universe. That’s saying a lot when there’s little to be invested in due to how inconsistent WWE books much of the roster. Still, Lashley remains a top star and he should be positioned as a top threat to Reigns that can draw him back into action.

Yes, the brand split is still a “thing” but those lines are fading every week. Many reports have come out about plans for WWE to feature more talent on both shows, without bringing the split to an official end. That creates the perfect space to have Lashley appear on SmackDown to call out Reigns. Lashley versus Reigns is a match that many have called for throughout the last year, and now would be the perfect time to do it.

Plus, this could be the catalyst to reform The Hurt Business. Cedric Alexander interfered to help Lashley get the win at Hell in a Cell. Shelton Benjamin wouldn’t be too far behind to join Alexander for a shot at the Usos and their unified tag team champions. The Hurt Business versus The Bloodline is a fresh feud that would help build interest in the WWE main event scene heading into Money in the Bank and SummerSlam.

WWE put both titles on Roman Reigns and the fallout continues to be felt throughout the promotion. There aren’t many men that could be presented as top challengers to Reigns quickly, but if anyone is at the top of the list that would be Bobby Lashley. This is the feud the company should go with through the rest of the summer.
