WWE should fold the main roster women’s tag team division
WWE’s lack of interest in booking a solid women’s tag team division continues on.
A month ago, Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out before an edition of WWE Monday Night Raw, setting off a series of events with a direct impact on the women’s main roster. There doesn’t seem to be much hope that WWE will improve the booking of the ladies on the roster. One sign is that the WWE Women Tag Team Championship has disappeared from television. Without any clear direction, the best bet would be for the company to fold those titles.
Yes, the best result would be for the company to change its tune and focus on developing a solid division. There is a lot of talent throughout the women’s roster in the WWE. It shouldn’t be a challenge for them to create a strong division of teams to present viable challengers and champions. That potential grows exponentially when the NXT brand is factored in.
The Women’s Tag Championship was meant to float between brands. The ladies of NXT should be involved, even combining the two championships into one. But alas, that would mean the WWE has to plan when it comes to booking their performers and that doesn’t seem like a skill the company cares to invest in at this time.
At this point, folding the division would be for the best
Tag team wrestling has long taken a back seat in the WWE. The same could be said about the men’s tag teams, but the situation is drastically worse when it comes to the women. If the reason behind Banks and Naomi walking out of the show was because they were unhappy with the planned booking, then WWE hasn’t taken any steps to show that the two women were incorrect. The titles were mentioned in passing as the plan for a tournament was revealed, but even that mention was almost three weeks ago without any further development. It seems like the WWE has already made the decision to close women’s wrestling on the main roster.
Professional wrestling fans have made it clear that they want to see women’s wrestling and tag team action. Instead of heeding those requests, WWE consistently goes in the other direction, seemingly out of spite. Unfortunately, these actions continue to hurt the women’s roster and at this point, the company should fold the women’s tag team championships rather than attempting to put in the half effort they have for most of their time on the roster.
