Impact Wrestling: Three Wrestlers To Push Moving Forward
Impact Wrestling continues to put out the best shows possible for its fans. With the 20th Slammiversary being a success, we look forward to the next chapter of Impact and ponder who will be the next top stars of the company.
The 20th Anniversary show of Slammiversary was a huge success. The night was filled with entertaining matches and familiar faces appearing to show their respect to Impact Wrestling. It was a night of celebration and a tribute to the names that helped bring the company where it is today. With that now behind us, there is only one thing left to do: look forward to the next twenty years. The one constant guarantee with Impact Wrestling throughout the years is that you will find some of the best talents in the world on their roster.
You can expect nothing less from the company that helped create stars like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. You can see a touch of Impact Wrestling in nearly every company you look at. Over the past twenty years, some of the best talents have fought inside an Impact Wrestling ring. While many have poked jokes over the years, there is no doubting that Impact Wrestling is the home of great wrestlers and great wrestling matches. We saw at Slammiveersary that the Impact talent of today is carrying the weight of their predecessors well.
Among Impact veterans such as Eric Young, Kazarian, and the Motor City Machine Guns, the newer talent is showing out every week. Over the past two years, superstars like Moose and Josh Alexander have become home-grown talents in Impact Wrestling and reached the top of the mountain by becoming Impact World Champions. However, the Impact Wrestling roster is still packed full of top stars of the future. Taking a look at the Impact roster today, these are the three wrestlers that deserve a push to the top the most.
3. Trey Miguel
When it was first announced that The Rascalz were leaving Impact Wrestling to join the WWE, most fans were expecting Trey Miguel to go alongside his old partners Xavier and Wentz. However, Miguel stayed with Impact while Xavier and Wentz signed with NXT. They were repackaged as Wes Lee and Nash Carter, the MSK, and went on to win the NXT Tag Team Championships twice before Wentz was released due to personal allegations. While Wes Lee fights to make a name for himself as a solo star in NXT now, Trey Miguel has proven he has what it takes to do it solo.
Since being left alone in Impact Wrestling, Trey has continued to improve every chance that he gets. After a few months off of television programming, Trey made his return to Impact in January of last year and hasn’t looked back. He won a tournament to become the X-Division Champion for the first time, also his first championship in Impact Wrestling. He made his reign as champion mean something by reigning as the champion for nearly 200 days before dropping the championship to Ace Austin, who we will be getting too soon enough.
At Slammiversary, Trey Miguel came up short in the Ultimate X match to win back the X-Division Championship. Although, anyone watching could tell that Trey Miguel is something special. He has all the ingredients needed to become a star in Impact Wrestling. He is still young at only 27 years old and has plenty of time to continue rising in Impact Wrestling. There is no doubt in my mind that we will see Trey win multiple more X-Division Championships. However, there is also no doubt that Trey Miguel could be the Impact World Champion.
2. Matt Taven
No stranger to success, Matt Taven was one of the most decorated and respected parts of Ring of Honor wrestling. Taven made his debut in ROH in 2009, only a year into his career. He had to work his way up the Ring of Honor card to earn the respect and accreditation that he deserved. He was a part of the villainous stable, The Kingdom when it was under the leadership of Adam Cole. He would earn the tag team championship alongside Michael Bennett during this version of the stable. After Bennett and his wife Maria left ROH and Taven was injured, The Kingdom disbanded.
Once Matt Taven returned from injury, he started back up the band but this time it was Matt Taven’s version of The Kingdom. He would soon be joined by Vinny Marseglia and TK O’Ryan. Taven continued to find tag team success as a member of The Kingdom but he had more important plans. Taven had his eyes set on becoming the ROH World Champion. Taven’s dream would become a reality at the special ROH and NJPW G1 Supercard when he defeated Jay Lethal and Marty Scurl to win the world championship.
Now that Matt Taven has found a new home in Impact Wrestling, it is only a matter of time until Matt Taven sets his sights on the Impact World Championship. Taven is surrounded by familiar faces in Impact as a part of the Honor No More stable. He has former Kingdom stablemates like Michael Bennett, Maria, and Vincent along with him once again. Even though the latter turned on him back in the day. Even though Eddie Edwards is the leader of Honor No More, that doesn’t mean that Matt Taven can’t become the Impact World Champion.
1. Ace Austin
If you didn’t know how good Ace Austin was beforehand, you have to know how good he is now as a member of The Bullet Club. Since arriving in Impact Wrestling back in 2019, Austin has been working his ass off to show everyone that he is one of, if not the best wrestler on the roster. He has become the face of the X-Division by winning the championship three times and always putting on great matches against any opponent. He is in the top ten for longest combined reigns as X-Division Champion and at only 25 years old, he has plenty of time to become number one.
However, while there is nothing wrong with being the face of the X-Division, Ace Austin has all the talent and potential to be the face of the entire company. You love to hate Ace Austin as a fan which means that he has been doing his job well. He was despicable when he was aligned with Madman Fulton. Now, Ace has to be more diabolic than ever since he recently joined The Bullet Club but that also means that he has to be more respected than ever. The Bullet Club doesn’t let just anybody join them. Ace joined a special list by wearing The Bullet Club’s colors and gear.
He came up short at Slammiversary where “Speedball” Mike Bailey won the Ultimate X match to become X-Division Champion. However, that doesn’t hurt the status of Ace Austin one bit. With the X-Division Championship off him, Ace can focus on replacing that title with the most important championship in Impact Wrestling. After beating Eric Young to retain the Impact World Championship, Josh Alexander needs a new challenger and I believe Ace Austin would be a perfect choice. He has had a handful of chances to fight for the Impact World Championship but I believe Ace has earned another shot at the gold.
