Bobby Lashley is a dominant WWE United States Champion. While many want to see him in the main event picture, where he does belong, WWE has established him as the one that will help bring credibility back to the mid-card after years of it being misused under prior creative direction. After defeating Ciampa at Monday Night Raw, fans look forward to who is next for Lashley to face. While that question is still in the air, let’s talk about the man who should take the belt from Lashley. That should be none other than Montez Ford.

Now before WWE viewers live in a world where Ford is challenging Lashley, there are a few things that must happen. There’s the looming story of a Street Profits split on the horizon. Seth Rollins hinted at it before defeating Ford and Angelo Dawkins the next week. They’ve been unsuccessful in their bid to claim WWE tag team gold and Ford is showing frustration in his character. In fact, Dawkins is as well. The turn is coming and there isn’t a clear indication on who will cause the split, as both men could fit into the heel dynamic.

But let’s assume that Ford goes the heel route, setting the stage for he and Dawkins to have the initial phases of what should be a prolonged feud. One way to add additional stakes to their angle would be to include a title in the situation. Seeing a heel Ford take on Lashley and eventually defeat him would be a moment that would immediately draw in fans. The fallout would allow for Lashley to return to the main event, perhaps to face off against Karrion Kross as champion or even to target Roman Reigns which is another angle that fans have longed to see.

Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are two individuals that fans want to see flourish as individuals, just as they have as a tag team. Seeing them split should lead to a long-term story that creates excellent moments and matches. Those situations don’t need to be exhausted right at the start but stringing them out over months would help grow investment in both men. Think back to when The Rockers split and Shawn Michaels went on his own, reached the WWE Intercontinental title, just to have Marty Jannetty return to become his biggest threat. There’s an opportunity to create a similar situation with Ford and Dawkins with the United States Championship hanging in the balance.

Three men that should hold the WWE Championship next. dark. Next

Bobby Lashley has firm control over the WWE United States Championship. When the time comes for that belt to leave his grasp, it should be Montez Ford to pull it away, leading to the next phase of his story with Angelo Dawkins bringing the split of The Street Profits to an end.
