NXT Worlds Collide 2022 has wrestling event of the year potential
Labor Day is roaring ahead and there’s a lot of professional wrestling to take in. With WWE Clash at the Castle and AEW All Out to bookend, it’s the surprising development of NXT World’s Collide that has a lot of wrestling fans talking. Looking at this card, there’s a strong potential for this event to steal the weekend and make the shortlist for the card of the year.
World’s Collide was a surprise addition to the stacked weekend. The clear goal is to find a way to roll the NXT UK brand into WWE NXT and potentially main roster WWE. With the eventual rebranding of the platform that saw multiple wrestlers released weeks ago, WWE is making the move of consolidation. That’s brought over names like Tyler Bate and Meiko Satomura to set up title unification matches.
At first glance, it seems like the NXT UK brand is about to take major losses, as it is hard to see a scenario where Satomura and Bate defeat Mandy Rose and Bron Breakker, respectively. However, WWE’s change in creative direction can lead to some outcomes that help build more interesting opportunities across the entire WWE product. For example, if Satomura snatches that championship away from Rose by pinning Blair Davenport, that opens the door for Toxic Attraction to join the main roster and help strengthen either Raw or SmackDown.
Then there’s the men’s tag team match to unify the championships. The Creed Brothers should be the favorite to come out on top, but these four teams can help boost the entire tag team division which is in need of a change.
Plus, there’s the perfect addition of main roster talent coming back to NXT to help the show. Nikki ASH and Doudrop should put on a good match against Kayden Carter and Katana Chance, but it’s the inclusion of Ricochet versus Carmelo Hayes that put this card over the top. If given the right treatment and time, these two can put on one of the best matches seen across professional wrestling this year. That’s the type of match that would fit in on any show, regardless of promotion, and the touch of strong presentation that WWE brings to the table should elevate it to higher levels.
Also, don’t sleep on Nathan Frazier versus Axiom in a two-out-of-three falls match. They are certainly going to put on a show.
There’s a lot to look forward to in professional wrestling in the next few days. When it’s all said and done, more than a few match of the year candidates will go down and some of them will come from the NXT Worlds Collide showcase.
