Another week is upon us and there are plenty of stories throughout professional wrestling to keep a close eye on. AEW Dynamite Grand Slam features a big title match-up between stable mates Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. WWE is putting together another card in Saudi Arabia, plus promoting Extreme Rules in a few weeks. With both of those and much more on the horizon, here are three stories in professional wrestling to watch very closely for the week of September 19.

MJF’s shadow looms over Grand Slam main event

Danielson versus Moxley is going to be an exceptional main event. They’ve squared off once and given fans one of the best matches of 2022, so no one should expect anything less this time around. However, there’s a huge shadow hanging over this match and that is in the form of one MJF.

MJF holds the poker chip in his hands and from how he’s phrased it, that means he could show up at any moment to cash it in. Is the chip now equivalent to WWE’s Money in the Bank? Or is that just a play on words from one of the best on the microphone in the business today? That’s the question that everyone is asking. Professional wrestling is 100 percent scripted, so it will be interesting to see how AEW leverages this moment come Wednesday.

WWE Survivor Series: War Games?

News broke on Monday via a Triple H interview on The Ringer, the 2022 edition of WWE Survivor Series will feature two War Games matches, one for the women and another for the men. Triple H also mentioned that storylines will play a bigger part in the PPV, rather than the simple “Brand Supremacy” gimmick.

This is a massive, positive change in the direction of said PPV which has seen its value lessened in recent years due to lackadaisical booking. With a prominent group like The Bloodline standing front and center, it will be interesting to see if this is the show that pits them against a viable threat to drive the next phase of their storyline.

More potential returns slotted for WWE

Dave Melzer of the Wrestling Observer reported last week that there are more names to return to the WWE on the horizon. Triple H has been on a tear since overtaking creative control of the promotion, bringing in several names that were released in the last three years. This has created some interesting opportunities across the shows, and there does not seem to be an end in sight. Of course, everyone is watching for a Bray Wyatt return or hints of such on each show, but with so many wrestlers released during the COVID-19 global pandemic, there really isn’t any telling who could come back into the fold and how they will be used in the future.
