AEW should introduce tag titles for the women’s division

AEW introducing women’s tag team titles would help the entire division.

In 2022, AEW introduced two new titles.  We have the All-Atlantic title and the long-awaited Trios titles.  The next title that AEW needs to introduce is a title for the women, the AEW Women’s Tag Team titles.

WWE has had mixed success with their Women’s Tag Team titles on the main roster and NXT. Impact Wrestling has had the best success with its Knockouts Tag Team titles.  AEW needs to come out with Women’s Tag Team titles in 2023.

One of the great advantages that a Women’s Tag Team division in AEW will have is the already established tag teams.  Teams like Tay Melo & Anna Jay, Madison Rayne & Blue Skye, Penelope Ford & the Bunny, and Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter would be the backbone of the division.

Newer teams such as Red Velvet & Leila Grey and Nyla Rose & Marina Shafir along with international teams from the DDT and Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling promotions could be a part of the division.

Of course, the trouble would be how we can see these matches.  The tournament should be shown on both Dynamite & Rampage, then the finals on an upcoming pay-per-view.  It’s imperative for AEW to make sure the titles feel important from the very start.

A strong case can be made that a Women’s Tag Team division could be too much, but if you want to showcase the best female wrestlers in the world then a tag team division is a perfect opportunity.  The matches would be fantastic and exciting.

On a recent episode of Dynamite, there was a three-way tag team match featuring three tag teams.  Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter, along with Tay Melo & Anna Jay, and Skye Blue & Willow Nightingale showed the great potential of having a women’s tag team division and tag team titles.  It was a perfect showcase.

Whether Tony Khan decides to go along with a women’s tag team division is something we’ll have to wait and see.  Will it be something fans will want to see like the Trios championship?  Or will it be a division that has to wait for a while?

I really believe a Women’s Tag Team championship would be great for AEW and can give more opportunities for the women who aren’t seen either on Dynamite or Rampage a chance to shine on a bigger scale.  While we would continue to see matches on Dark or Dark Elevation on YouTube, the bigger opportunity is on television.

No doubt women’s tag team wrestling is an adventure and right now needs to be ironed out and focused more on television.  Women’s Tag Team titles in AEW would be a great chance to see wrestlers who haven’t had much opportunity to get their chance to shine to a worldwide audience.

Now is the time for AEW to bring a new championship to the company and this one is a no-brainer.  We need to see this for the women’s division and it needs to be the AEW Women’s Tag Team titles.  Tony Khan, the ball is in your court.
