Montez Ford should have a breakout run to main event player in 2023

The New Year should be big for several WWE superstars, but Montez Ford is the one the company must push to the moon.

2023 is upon us and there’s a lot to look forward to in these twelve months. The Royal Rumble is looming and fans want to see some good developments under Triple H. The news about the WWE sale brings concern as Vince McMahon looms in the distance, but fans are clinging to hope. Seeing Montez Ford breakout from tag team performer to main event star would be at least one positive move and 2023 is the year to make it happen.

Since their arrival on the main roster back in 2019, The Street Profits remain one of the most popular groups in the company. Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford immediately hit the ground running. They’ve captured the SmackDown and Raw Tag Team titles while putting on classic matches against the likes of The New Day and The Usos. They remain in the title picture but continue to fail when attempting to capture the belts again.

From midcard status to the main event for Montez Ford

The WWE has hinted at the idea of a split between The Street Profits, but fans do not want to see that happen. While many recognize it’s time to see Ford bloom into a main event star. That doesn’t mean Dawkins needs to be used as fodder to get to that level. Giving these two an amicable split that potentially leads to a feud based on respect or even on separate shows entirely is a step in the right direction.

Ford isn’t on the list of favorites to win the Royal Rumble. There isn’t even a clarification that he’d be in the contest. But you know where he could excel? The Money in the Bank ladder match. Kicking off Ford’s push to the main event as an angle built around him realizing this is his moment, overcoming a challenge to even get in the match, and potentially winning it would be huge to build a bond with fans. The crowds in attendance and online already love everything that he does. This scenario would push that situation over the top.

WWE could also use the midcard title path to build Ford up as a star. Seeing Ford take on and overcome the likes of GUNTHER or Austin Theory is another opportunity to help him become a bigger star. Putting either the United States or Intercontinental title on his waist for a strong run in 2023 sets up what would be an even bigger 2024. He’s the perfect name to defeat either man and it would be a big star-making moment.

WWE has the potential to create a massive power couple with Bianca Belair and Montez Ford. The company is already halfway there by allowing Belair to carry the women’s division. Elevating Ford to main event status would complete the equation and give the company another big and potentially cross-over star. 2023 is the year to make that happen and the fans are ready to see it.
