Kenny Omega would thrive if he joined the WWE roster
Kenny Omega would be a star on the WWE roster and if they booked him otherwise the company would deserve the backlash.
Every week there’s another social media conversation going on about The Elite. Whether it is another ridiculous episode of BTE or another entry in their fantastic catalog of matches, they are one of the most debated groups in professional wrestling. This time, there is a growing buzz around the idea of Kenny Omega heading to the WWE, and while these discussions are all built on speculation, plenty has a lot to say. One amazing point is around the idea of how Omega would perform in the new company and based on previous samples and current leadership – Omega would be just fine in the WWE.
Kenny Omega is one of the best professional wrestlers in the world today. His resume already speaks volumes when compared to his peers, but what he’s continued to do when the spotlight shines the brightest is akin to what Michael Jordan achieved when the pressure was on in the NBA. It doesn’t matter who creates the list, Omega deserves to be among the five individuals listed at the top of the game.
The idea of him not being able to achieve success in the WWE is questionable at best, and wildly incorrect at worst.
Now, before diving into why Omega would achieve success, it’s understandable to be concerned about WWE’s past treatment of stars that were built in other organizations. The company has a trend of signing big names and making them look like fools in a concerted effort to send a message that WWE is the “big league” in professional wrestling. That fear is understandable, but still off base in this situation.
WWE signing and then booking Omega as anything less than a superstar would be promotional malpractice. The free agency market is thriving in today’s wrestling world, widely due to the growth and success of All Elite Wrestling. There are individuals like MJF on the AEW roster that WWE would love to sign when the opportunity to do so arises. One part of doing that means they would have to treat any other names correctly along the way. This is what makes Cody Rhodes‘s return to the WWE so important. WWE has presented him as a main event superstar every step of the way and doing so helps quell the idea that they would treat big signees from other companies as less than.
A WWE run for Kenny Omega should mirror that of other former Bullet Club members
Then look at other individuals who’ve made the jump in recent years. Along with Rhodes, AJ Styles, and Finn Balor are two names that stand out. Both men have found levels of success throughout their time with WWE, and while not always at the top with the best booking, they can quickly find themselves in those positions when the time comes. Even individuals like Drew McIntyre or Rey Mysterio can be mentioned in the conversation as performers who received booking to match their stature after joining (or rejoining) WWE.
It’s also worth noting that for every name like Balor and Styles, there are other examples like Shinsuke Nakamura and Kushida who were big names in other companies, and not booked well when they were a part of the WWE. A big part of that conversation can’t be ignored that WWE, like much of professional wrestling, fails to book minorities to the same level of prominence as it does their white peers. This adds another complicated layer to the conversation that cannot be ignored.
Still, Kenny Omega is a wrestling superstar in all aspects of the word. A run in WWE would further cement a career that can be considered one of the best of all time. WWE would deserve all the backlash in the world if he was mistreated as a part of the roster, but fans should expect him to thrive if this were to become a reality. And no, Kenny Omega does NOT need to step foot in WWE NXT.
