WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 1 Predictions: Rhea Ripley Will Annihilate Charlotte Flair
By Mark Justice
WWE WrestleMania 39 is only two weeks away, and the WWE has made ten matches official for this “premium live event.” Since this event is two nights, it is expected that there will be six-seven matches per night. The following will provide some rapid-fire match card predictions for night one of what should be one of the most exciting PPVs of the year: WWE WrestleMania 39.
WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 1 is scheduled to take place on April 1, 2023, live on Peacock. Here are some match card predictions for night 1 of WrestleMania.
Usos (c) vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn [Undisputed Tag Team Championships]
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will defeat Usos to become the new Undisputed Tag Team Champions. The seeds have been planted for Owens and Zayn to achieve this consolation prize after losing their respective world title matches to Roman Reigns at the Rumble and the Elimination Chamber. The key here is for Zayn to pin Jey Uso to win the belts because most of the developed angles in the Bloodline have involved tension between these two and it warrants a solid babyface payoff for Zayn due to his strong connection with the WWE Universe, as of late.
Prediction: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez vs. Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler vs. Carmella & Chelsea Green vs. Candice LeRae & Nikki Cross [Fatal Four Way Tag Match]
While it seems that Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez have become a popular makeshift tag team, Ronda and Shayna Baszler have continued their tandem and will definitely win the tag titles in the future due to the legitimacy of their team. Henceforth, they should and will win here to move up the ladder as number one contenders. They had plenty of history with Morgan and Rodriguez, especially during Rousey’s title reign, so this should be interesting. The other two teams don’t have a chance and are merely being added as filler to add more superstars to the card.
Prediction: Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler
Rey Mysterio vs. Dominick Mysterio [Grudge Match]
Dominick Mysterio will defeat Rey Mysterio in what should be a passing of the torch from father to son. Dominick has truly evolved into his own character since joining the Judgment Day. His mannerisms and nonchalant behavior are contagiously amusing. The idea of Dominick maturing through his edgy teen phase into a man’s man is truly a sight to see. He can finally spread his wings and not live in his dad’s shadow. He is incredibly over with the crowd and attracts a ton of heel heat. Most importantly, he needs the win to solidify his progressive transformation.
Prediction: Dominick Mysterio
Gunther (c) vs. Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre [Intercontinental Championship]
Gunther will stack the Banger Bros to retain the Intercontinental Title. It can be argued that Sheamus has to achieve his Grand Slam, as he did make it known that he aims to defeat Gunther at WrestleMania in their long-term trilogy. It can also be argued that McIntyre needs a win here as a consolation prize from losing to Roman at Clash at the Castle, as the Intercontinental Title holds some sentimental value to McIntyre since it was the first title he ever won in WWE. However, Gunther put in some impeccable work as champ and should solidify his reign on this big stage.
Prediction: Gunther
Brock Lesnar vs. Omos [Grudge Match]
Brock Lesnar will defeat Omos because Omos is too green to defeat someone of Lesnar’s caliber just yet. This is merely a rub to give Omos some exposure to the causal fan base at Mania and build up to the spectacle of Lesnar using his immense strength to lift up Omos for the F-5. Also, Lesnar hasn’t won a WrestleMania match in five years. The last time he won a match was at WrestleMania 34, as he lost to Rollins, McIntyre, and Reigns at Mania 35, 36, and 38 respectively. It is long overdue for the streak breaker to win at Mania and maintain his credibility.
Prediction: Brock Lesnar
Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul [Grudge Match]
Seth Rollins will defeat Logan Paul because he needs revenge for Paul eliminating him from the Rumble and costing him the Chamber match against Austin Theory for the U.S. Title. Paul has single-handedly stopped Rollins from getting a title match at WrestleMania, and Rollins needs to put Paul in his place for screwing him on two separate occasions. Although Paul should be able to deliver a good match with Rollins, Rollins deserved a much better match at WrestleMania this year. Paul has not been in WWE long enough to beat someone of Rollins’ caliber just yet.
Prediction: Seth Rollins
Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley [SmackDown Women’s Championship]
Rhea Ripley will defeat Charlotte Flair to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion because she lost to Charlotte at WrestleMania 36 and she needs to redeem herself with her new Judgment Day character at this year’s WrestleMania. It would make no sense to put all this work into repackaging and developing a new character for Ripley over the course of three years just for her to lose to Charlotte again. It would be a waste of a Rumble victory and a waste of a fresh face and future star who could run this women’s division. This is a must-win situation for Ripley.
Prediction: Rhea Ripley
