Three things that must happen post WrestleMania
WrestleMania season has come and gone. There’s a lot of talk of the aftermath, but these are three things that must happen now that the milestone event has passed.
Now that the Wrestlemania season has officially ended, we are in a new calendar year in the WWE. This means fresh feuds can begin to take form and we can inject some new blood at the top of the card. With a lackluster Raw after Mania for a second consecutive year, this cannot happen soon enough.
Three ideas that need to happen Post Wrestlemania
Regardless of which side of the fence you were on for the main event, the numbers don’t lie. Wrestlemania 39 was the most successful event in WWE history, and the company is riding a ton of momentum. Things can only go up from this point and here is how it can stay that way.
Fix the Women’s Division
A new era is officially here for the WWE Women’s division with Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley poised to lead the way. It’s taken a bit of time to surpass what was the Four Horsewomen era but now things are as open as ever. The only problem is that there is no clear-cut “next up” persona throughout the division. For the past year, the company has done a poor job of identifying a legitimate threat to Bianca Belair. While Ripley, who’s been stellar in the Judgement Day, seems void of a credible challenger on Smackdown.
It would be wise to build new challengers for both brands. Perhaps the dark return to “Kana” has more layers to be explored, but the division is too deep to continue running back the same angles. Piper Niven, Iyo Sky, Sonya Deville, and more should be built up as threats to the dominance of Belair. While the likes of Raquel Gonzalez, and Shayna Baszler are perfect adversaries for Ripley early on.
There is also a need for more secondary feuds that take place outside of the title picture. This is an area Damage CTRL has dominated for far too long. It’s time for the WWE to utilize the superstars in the deepest Women’s division in pro wrestling.
Fresh Faces
Typically post Wrestlemania season one of the most exciting things is new debuts. With NXT Stand and Deliver behind us, many superstars are ready to make the jump to Raw or Smackdown. WWE has done a great job of blending main-roster talent with NXT over the past year, crossover matches make for great television.
Superstars like Apollo Crews, The New Day, Natalya, Dolph Ziggler, and Ricochet have taken stints to help elevate the talent in NXT. For some of the NXT talent, there is no story left to be told on the brand and it’s time to move on. Raw and Smackdown should look to bring in the likes of Bron Breakker, Cameron Grimes, Ilja Dragunov, Zoey Stark, and Roxanne Perez immediately. These are superstars that can add depth and bring fresh stories Monday and Friday Nights.
Finish the Story
Perhaps the ending of Wrestlemania night two didn’t play out as you imagined. That doesn’t mean the story is finished, in fact, it is just getting started. Cody Rhodes will now begin his journey as the ultimate underdog. In reality, he was never going to defeat Roman Reigns on his first attempt, though everything to happen in the past year has legitimized Rhodes as a main event talent.
The Bloodline story has many layers and the first domino just fell with the Usos being dethroned on night one. The story now becomes Cody showcasing true babyface resilience and overcoming the obstacles thrown at him, starting with Brock Lesnar. This will satisfy all parties as Reigns will certainly grasp 1,000 days as champion, while Rhodes will continue to knock on the door he was so close to kicking down.
The story was never meant to culminate at Wrestlemania 39, as it has to do with the slow dismantling of the Bloodline. The cracks in the infrastructure will gradually happen with what should be a major angle with Jey Uso. Meanwhile, Cody will always be there lurking for his rematch. Rest assured when it happens again it will truly be one-on-one and the moment of taking the throne will be bigger than what would have been in Los Angeles.
