Mustafa Ali made a surprise appearance in WWE NXT and these are three matches that fans would love to see.

The May 30 edition of WWE NXT was a surprising one that saw Mustafa Ali appear during a match that featured Tyler Bate and Wes Lee taking on Dyad. Early speculation is that he’s there as an eventual opponent for Lee who is in the midst of a well-received run as NXT North American Champion. If Ali is going to have an extended stay in the brand, then these are three matches (beyond the expected match with Lee) that fans would love to get before he heads back up the main roster.

Dragon Lee

Dragon Lee is an important “prospect” of sorts on the NXT roster. For those in the know, Lee is an exceptionally capable performer who could be on the main roster immediately. His career is nearly a decade long with time in All Elite Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling, Ring of Honor, Triple A, and other major promotions around the world.

It would be interesting to see Lee and Ali face off against each other in a mix of styles. Lee can match anyone when it comes to the ariel aspects of wrestling, but he also brings a power game to his matches. While Ali doesn’t always get to show it on the main roster, his style can quickly transition between hit-and-run tactics, to a more grappling-based attack. Bringing these two together would be a site to see.

Ilja Dragunov

Ilja Dragunov continues to be a special name on the NXT roster. When given the opportunity, his matches continue to steal the show, such as his two title matches with GUNTHER, and his NXT Battleground match with Dijak. Dragunov has a growing fanbase and with the effort that he continues to put into these matches, that base will only grow.

Dragunov versus Ali has immediate main event level attraction if pit on a weekly edition of WWE NXT. It would be a violent affair in which Ali would have to tap into that space if he’s going to keep pace with the European competitor.

Axiom

Axiom is probably the individual most like Ali on this list. He’s someone that should be on the short list of future NXT North American champions, if not someone who could be a future NXT Champion. Pitting him against Ali would be a match that Ali should win to add some legitimacy to his return to NXT, but it’s also worth creating a rematch together where Axiom gets that win back. Axiom is a name to watch and slotting him against Mustafa Ali would help in that development.
