WWE SmackDown Predictions: Sheamus Will Dethrone Austin Theory

Sheamus and Austin Theory are heading for a major faceoff at WWE SmackDown. 

WWE SmackDown is now on the road to WWE SummerSlam 2023 after a successful MITB PPV in the UK. On this week’s episode of WWE Raw, Austin Theory is scheduled to defend his championship against Sheamus in a title rematch. AJ Styles is also scheduled to continue his feud with Karrion Kross in another match on the road to SummerSlam. Edge is also scheduled to appear on the Grayson Waller Effect, which will set up his next feud on his retirement tour.

In other news regarding the fallout from MITB, Jey Uso pinned Roman Reigns in their tag match main event at MITB in what was a historic moment. Roman has not been pinned in the past three and a half years, and Jey Uso has undoubtedly earned his world title shot against Reigns at SummerSlam. Meanwhile, Asuka, Bianca Belair, and Charlotte Flair will continue their triple-threat feud for the women’s title on the road to SummerSlam.

The following will focus on Austin Theory’s title match with Sheamus on this episode and the future of his title reign on the road to WWE SummerSlam 2023.

WWE SmackDown is scheduled to take place on July 7, 2023, live on FOX and Sheamus will dethrone Austin Theory in their title match.

Austin Theory (c) vs. Sheamus [U.S. Championship]

Sheamus will dethrone Austin Theory to become the new U.S. Champion because he needs a consolation prize for failing to win the IC Title from Gunther and achieving his Ultimate Gran Slam. Sheamus actually recently complained about the push of the Brawling Brutes and how disappointing it was for him to be left off the MITB UK PPV. Since Austin Theory’s title reign has gone stale since beating John Cena at Mania and Sheamus needs a token of appreciation for his loyalty to WWE, the writing is on the wall for Sheamus to pick up the big win.

AJ Styles vs. Karrion Kross [Grudge Match]

Karrion Kross will defeat AJ Styles because of the 50:50 booking. AJ Styles already defeated Kross a month ago, so Kross will get a win back and potentially set himself up for a future United States Championship opportunity. Kross desperately needs to regain his momentum, as his return to WWE has been one of the biggest disappointments in recent memory. He is a former NXT Champion who could really make an impact in the SmackDown mid card division, so it will be interesting to see where his future lies on the blue brand.
