WWE SmackDown is continuing its road to WWE SummerSlam 2023, which already has a plethora of rumored blockbuster matches. On this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Asuka will defend her WWE Women’s Title against Bianca Belair, who invoked her rematch clause that kicked in after losing the title to Asuka at Night of Champions.

In terms of segments, Jey Uso staked his claim for Roman Reigns’ WWE Universal Title in the Tribal Court last week, but Goldberg could be the one to swoop in and take away the spotlight from Jey Uso for the big title match against Reigns.

In other news regarding WWE SmackDown, Austin Theory retained his U.S. Title against Sheamus last week via nefarious means, and he is now a big red target. Sheamus will want his fair chance at the title on the road to SummerSlam. LA Knight is also in need of a consolation prize after coming so close to winning MITB whilst being over with the crowd.

AJ Styles got a big win over Karrion Kross last week and could also be seeking some gold. Grayson Waller even got a solid rub from Edge in the main event last week. It’ll be interesting to see how the midcard turns out this summer.

Nonetheless, the following will focus on the idea of Goldberg replacing Jey Uso en route to his title match with Roman Reigns on the road to WWE SummerSlam 2023.

WWE SmackDown is scheduled to take place on July 14, 2023, live on FOX, and Goldberg will replace Jey Uso in his upcoming title match with Roman Reigns.

Who Will Replace Jey Uso? [Major Segment]

Vince McMahon is back in the fold and he usually books blockbuster SummerSlam main events. From a storyline perspective, Jey Uso makes the most sense to be Roman Reigns’ opponent, especially since he was Reigns’ first challenger when he won the title three years ago.

However, from a business perspective, Jey Uso does not have the star power to be in the main event with Reigns on a big stage like SummerSlam. Goldberg fits the ‘bill’ (pun intended) quite suitably and can finally get the rematch he teased in recent interviews that will find him closure in his career.

Prediction: Goldberg

Asuka (c) vs. Bianca Belair [WWE Women’s Championship]

Asuka will retain the WWE Women’s Championship via disqualification due to Charlotte Flair’s inevitable interference in this title match. The WWE has made it pretty clear in the past few weeks that they are building up a triple threat title match between Asuka, Bianca Belair, and Charlotte Flair for SummerSlam.

As evidenced by the interactions last week, Ms. MITB Iyo Sky is also a major threat to Asuka’s title reign. As long as Bayley doesn’t cost Sky her cash in, the WWE could even see a dream match between Asuka and Sky in the near future.

Prediction: Asuka (via DQ due to Charlotte Flair interference)
