It’s time to finally turn Drew McIntyre heel

Drew McIntyre’s current character has run its course and it is time to make him the top heel on WWE Raw.

Drew McIntyre is on the RAW brand, trying to regain momentum by being in the championship picture. Currently, he hasn’t had any luck in doing so. Last month, he returned by setting his intentions on Gunther‘s Intercontinental Championship. Unfortunately for McIntyre, he came up short against “The Ring General”. With McIntyre’s status unknown, maybe it’s time to alter his character to the heel he once was.

When McIntyre was a heel, he was running over anyone that stood in his path. He would win tag team gold with Dolph Ziggler and ally himself with then-dominant heels such as Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Shane McMahon. McIntyre can portray both a heel and face persona, but a heel role best suits him. Being a heel has been the right role for him dating back to being labeled as “The Chosen One” by Vince McMahon.

McIntyre did an excellent job as a babyface, even with the unfortunate circumstances that came his way. The year McIntyre finally rose to stardom, the COVID-19 global pandemic occurred. With no fans in attendance, it was quite difficult for McIntyre to run WWE’s flagship show, but he still was able to deliver virtually. Not only would a heel turn give McIntyre a clean slate but also something fresh for the RAW brand, as the show is lacking dominant heels. Gladly, RAW is starting to build up its list of heels. Shinsuke Nakamura would even turn heel for the first time in two years by targeting World Heavyweight Champion, Seth “Freakin” Rollins. It would be interesting to see McIntyre set his eyes on Rollins himself as well, but he would need to elevate himself as a potential heel.

One way of doing so is by going after RAW’s other top babyface, Cody Rhodes. This past SummerSlam, Rhodes finally overcame Lesnar by defeating him and earning the veteran’s respect. Rhodes can have another person to overcome by going against a heel McIntyre. Some fans may remember that both McIntyre and Rhodes have a history of being tag team champions together in their early careers. Turning McIntyre’s heel by antagonizing Rhodes would be a win-win situation as it would boost both of these main event wrestlers on RAW.
