Fightful Select reveals Sheamus contract to expire in 2024
Sheamus remains a valuable part of the WWE roster and news broke on Wednesday that his deal is set to expire in 2024.
2024 is shaping up to be a big year for contracts across professional wrestling. Fightful Select reported on Wednesday that Sheamus’s deal with WWE is set to expire next year. This is along with other major names in the company, Becky Lynch, and Drew McIntyre. Sheamus has shown that he is a valuable member of the WWE roster and one that the company should move to keep as his career moves forward.
There’s so much to say about Sheamus’s career. He’s held nearly every championship available to main-roster talent. His campaign to take the WWE Intercontinental Championship from GUNTHER was one of the best stories in 2022, culminating with the 2022 Daily DDT Match of the Year. There was a point where it looked like the battle against spinal stenosis was going to take his career. Not only would Sheamus return, but his run with the company from 2020 to today was a whole new chapter worthy of praise for a different level. Sheamus could be considered one of the MVPs during the COVID-19 era of WWE television.
It will be interesting to see how WWE approaches a series of contract negotiations with major stars now that it is a part of the TKO Group Holdings. The other side of that merger, UFC, is notorious for practically not negotiating with its fighters, being outright hostile to the idea. WWE doesn’t have the same type of monopolistic hold on professional wrestling, as entities like All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling do serve as viable alternatives.
Sheamus will be 46 years old when his contract expires if the current timeline holds true. WWE still has the space to tell one more story with Sheamus making a push to capture the IC title to close out what is already a Hall of Fame career. He’s shown that he still has a strong following in front of the camera, and his knowledge and experience would also be valuable behind the scenes.
