Mustafa Ali is no longer a member of the WWE roster.

On what was already a big news Thursday for the WWE, Mustafa Ali took to Twitter to announce that he’s no longer working for the WWE.

“I am no longer working with WWE,” Ali tweeted Thursday morning. “I look forward to the future, thank you.”

Ali initially tweeted “longer working with WWE,” but corrected that in a follow-up tweet.

This is a surprising development as Ali was scheduled to face Dominick Mysterio for the North American Championship on NXT No Mercy.

Ali was one of the big fan favorites in WWE that many pushed to see achieve much more. He debuted with the company back in 2016 and throughout his tenure never reached a championship. The “Free Ali” movement from 2022 saw many fans push for WWE to grant his release, but that would never come as he returned to the organization later that year. He would then be involved with angles against the likes of GUNTHER, before heading to WWE NXT where he was frequently involved with some of the top names on that brand.

Ali’s last match was a victory over Dragon Lee on September 5. He also appeared in an interview segment on the September 19 edition of the show.

WWE has not officially announced that Ali is no longer with the company. PW Insider confirmed that Ali is no longer with WWE, with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful stating that these cuts were not due to any talent cuts post the WWE-UFC merger under Endeavor.
