Dolph Ziggler would have an amazing run in AEW
If Dolph Ziggler continues performing in professional wrestling, he would have an amazing phase of a career in AEW.
The WWE surprised the wrestling community with roster cuts on Thursday, September 21. Hours earlier the company announced a massive television rights deal that will more SmackDown back to the USA Network, and this is 10 days after the merger with UFC to become TKO Group Holdings under the Endeavor banner that saw multiple executives get massive bonuses. With so much success, these cuts came swiftly, with several top stars being released. One such was Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler’s an interesting name to talk about and one that would put on a surprising run if given the opportunity in All Elite Wrestling.
Ziggler is a phenomenal wrestler. That isn’t up for debate. Look at the response that swarmed the wrestling world when his name was among those cut from the WWE roster. Many expected him to be there for the duration of his career, eventually segueing into a backstage role where his knowledge could continue to contribute. Instead, he was released and at 46 years of age, he’s made a lot of money in his career. What’s next for someone as capable as Dolph Ziggler? Perhaps a “proving ground” type of run in AEW.
Dolph Ziggler can do everything that hardcore fans love in pro wrestling. He can compete from bell to bell with any of his peers. He can deliver strong character work that can get you invested in him and his story. He’s shown flashes of both multiple times before the WWE opted to cut his momentum out from under him. If he was given the space to run in a promotion like All Elite Wrestling, great things would come.
Think about some of the matches fans could see. Dolph Ziggler versus the likes of Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Jay White, Orange Cassidy, Eddie Kingston, Bryan Danielson, and so many more. Ziggler has the credentials to be a main event player, but he could also be someone who hovers around that area like a Christian Cage while he helps build the rest of the division. There’s too much opportunity in what an AEW run could look like for Dolph Ziggler.
All of this is speculation. There’s no telling what Ziggler may want to do with this phase of his career. Perhaps he’s done with wrestling. Or maybe he wants to have fun with it like pairing with his brother Ryan Nemeth, who is also a part of the AEW roster. But if anyone could walk through that curtain and have an immediate impact on the roster, it’s certainly “The Showoff.”
