Asuka made her successful return to WWE on the June 16 edition of Monday Night Raw. She advanced in the Queen of the Ring Tournament, defeating Ivy Nile, Raquel Rodriguez, and Stephanie Vaquer. It has been more than a year since fans had the opportunity to cheer for Asuka. Now is the time for WWE to give her a major push and tell a story that focuses on her and IYO Sky.
Fans love IYO Sky. She’s one of the best and most consistent performers on the WWE roster. However, it is hard to debate against the idea that Triple H’s creative has squandered the momentum she had coming out of WrestleMania 41. In the months that followed, she’s yet to defend the WWE Women’s World Championship. In many ways, it feels like she’s in a holding pattern just to lose that title back to Rhea Ripley when WWE is ready to pull the trigger. It is a frustrating situation that will not only lead to more support for Sky but can cause some fans to turn against Ripley at the same time.
Asuka is the perfect individual to build up as a serious threat to Iyo Sky. The two spent several years teaming together as a part of Damage CTRL. Even beyond that, their history goes all the way back to 2008. They’ve stood across from each other, and on the same side, battling for several different titles throughout the years.
Even with all these years spent in the same company, Asuka and IYO Sky only have two singles matches against each other. Both times, Sky came out the victor. Imagine the angle being built that Asuka is thinking about the end of her career, and she wants a victory over Sky before things are said and done. A victory that includes the WWE Women’s World Championship. That is the type of angle that would be a draw heading into SummerSlam 2025.
Asuka versus IYO Sky is a history-making feud
While Triple H may say that he doesn’t see color, fans are taking note of who gets pushed to the top across WWE brands. When it comes to the women’s divisions, WWE is doing much better, elevating a diverse group of performers to the top. However, it would still be a monumental moment to see Asuka and IYO Sky battle for a main card singles titles. It would be the first time in history that two Asian women would compete in a singles match for a world title on a PLE. It is a moment that should not be ignored or missed.
Asuka versus IYO Sky is the type of dream match fans have long wanted to see. With the former’s return to action, WWE has the opportunity to give viewers what they want. With SummerSlam on the horizon, this would easily be the frontrunner for the match to steal the entire weekend of action.
