Becky Lynch vs Lyra Valkyria at WrestleMania 41 must happen

Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria have all the history to tell if given the opportunity to battle for the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship.

WrestleMania 41 is a few weeks away. Several matches are taking shape, with the major title matches coming together after Elimination Chamber: Toronto. There’s one woman whose name hasn’t found its way onto the WrestleMania card yet, and that is Becky Lynch. Fightful has reported that Lynch has re-signed with WWE, yet she hasn’t been mentioned as a part of the biggest show of the year. There’s a spot for her and it should be facing off against Lyra Valkyria for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.

At first glance, the idea of Becky Lynch being in the “midcard” seems to be a mistake. But think about who we’re talking about here. Lynch has proven herself to be one of the most selfless individuals in all of wrestling. She continues to use her name and cache to raise the status of the rest of the women’s division.

“She’s such a nice person, she asked for all the people that she wanted to work with, which is wild, for her to even go, ‘I want to work with Nixon,’” said Nixon Newell (formerly known as Tegan Nox) when talking about working with Lynch. “That entire situation with Becky was just mind blowing, and something that I will hold very dear to me, not just the rest of my career, but for the rest of my life.”

Becky Lynch versus Lyra Valkyria II makes sense

That’s just one example. There’s another that should be used to set the stage for Lynch versus Valkyria. Lynch took a side quest to WWE NXT in late 2023, defeating Tiffany Stratton to become champion. From there, she defended the title five times, and it was in that fifth match she and Valkyria had an excellent match.

Valkyria picked up the win, became the champion, and kicked off the run that would see her quickly rise to where she is today on the Monday Night Raw roster. Lynch played a key part in that and it’s time to see payback in the form of a story between the two women on the main roster.

Fans wanted to see WWE build the midcard via the two new titles, but that hasn’t worked out so far. Valkyria has defended the title only once, even though she’s held it for 44 days as of this writing. That isn’t a detraction to Valkyria, but more about the booking that has occurred around them. The only way to correct the direction of the women’s midcard is to improve the booking and this is where Becky Lynch comes into play.

Lynch picking up that title after a strong build against Valkyria at WrestleMania 41 would be the kickstart that part of the division needs. Imagine the work that Lynch would do against women like Dakota Kai, Kairi Sane, Ivy Nile, Roxanne Perez, Alba Fyre, and others. She would go a long way in helping build excitement around that group and it’s a step WWE needs to take.

Lyra Valkyria should be a part of WrestleMania 41 and the best way to make that happen would be to pit her against Becky Lynch for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
