Britt Baker was once one of the most popular members of the AEW roster. However, it looks like that time may be coming to an end. Mark O’Brien of Bodyslam reported that Baker is “actively seeking” to leave AEW. That report sent social media spiraling, with a lot of interesting takes on the development and what is next for the former champion. Many fans pushed the idea of Baker heading to WWE, but the largest company in the world should avoid bringing her in for a variety of reasons.

Britt Baker last performed on November 13, 2024, picking up a win over Penelope Ford in just under ten minutes. Since then, she’s not only been off camera, but also not mentioned on AEW television. That’s quite the shift from Baker’s position in the company a few short years ago, when she was one of the biggest names in the company and perhaps its first “home-grown” star.
Baker hit several important accolades during her time with the company. She was involved in the first women’s “lights-out” match. She and Thunder Rosa had an important feud in the company that culminated with their famed steel cage match. However, she struggled with several injuries and rumored back staff issues along the way.
Things have changed. Baker posted a cryptic message on social media that sent people spiraling to speculate her intentions of leaving, which were eventually fleshed out in Bodyslam’s report. The big question about what is next for Britt Baker is now the conversation.
WWE should not sign Britt Baker
WWE should flat out not sign Britt Baker. Why? Well, there are several reasons for that being the case.
First, WWE has a stacked women’s division. Monday Night Raw, SmackDown, and NXT are packed with great performers, many of whom do not get ample time on television to prove that point. Adding Baker to that group further takes away time that should go to someone else.
Who would she take time away from? Alexa Bliss? Kelani Jordan? Jaida Parker? Kairi Sane? It would be easy to see how WWE would place Baker’s value higher than those mentioned or others, even though the fans would push back against the idea.
Second, Baker has a long history of injuries that have kept her off television for multiple months at the time. She’s talked openly about questioning her place in wrestling while dealing with those injuries, and that should be a red light to WWE bringing her in. Think about this in relation to professional sports, where many star athletes are devalued after suffering through injuries. This is sadly a part of the business.
Then there are the things Baker has said about WWE over the years. When AEW used to take several shots at WWE on a weekly basis, Baker was one of the loudest to do so. While this would frequently get a positive reaction from her fans, it should still raise an alarm for WWE when it comes to her place in the locker room. This is especially true for NXT, where she had some poignant words.
“I don’t think putting a bunch of models and athletes off the street in a warehouse and teaching them to do all the same thing the same way at the same time is going to create a successful roster,” Baker said while speaking to The Washington Post back in 2021. Baker wouldn’t walk in and be the best performer on that roster today, and that’s telling in her abilities compared to a roster of younger, healthier names.
WWE has signed several names who’ve left AEW in recent months. Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, and Blake Monroe are just a few. They shouldn’t sign everyone, though. If Britt Baker becomes available, WWE should not bring her in.
