The WWE Royal Rumble is coming in hot and there’s hope for a lot of surprises. Fans want to see the women’s rumble, because there’s opportunity for several big names to return to the show. Speculation is that Charlotte Flair is one of those performers. That speculation also predicts that she’s going right back to the top of the women’s division with championship gold around her waist. If Flair does return, one must wonder where she stands and is best used on the main roster today.
Charlotte Flair is a star. In all aspects of professional wrestling, Flair is a star. It does not matter what promotion she’d be in; she would still be booked as a top name in the women’s division. WWE has long positioned her at the top of the women’s division, even if that meant lowering other fan favorites along the way. So, no one should be surprised if someone’s momentum is cut because of Flair’s return.
Fightful Select recently reported that a WrestleMania match in sight pits Flair against new WWE Women’s Champion, Tiffany Stratton. While Stratton versus Flair has the allure of a main event contest, WWE must be careful with the outcome. Think back to when Asuka moved to the main roster after dominating WWE NXT. She’d win the Royal Rumble and face Flair at WrestleMania, only to lose. Some will argue that she never fully regained her momentum after that moment. While WWE’s booking at the time is to blame, the company does not want to make that same mistake with another young talent in Tiffany Stratton.
What if WWE went in another direction with Charlotte Flair? The company has recently introduced two new midcard championships in the Women’s United States and Women’s Intercontinental titles. What if Flair stepped in to challenge the champion of either title, won, and built a lengthy reign there? She could be someone who held a title like GUNTHER’s run as Intercontinental Champion, hopefully building the rest of the division along the way. Again, set the stage of Flair having a lengthy time as a midcard champion for a performer from NXT to get the main roster push of defeating her. Someone like Sol Ruca or Jaida Parker in 2026. That type of placement would use Flair’s prominence to shine a light on the midcard, while hopefully giving a young performer the rub of defeating her at some point. There’s an opportunity there that would be best served for the future of the entire division.
Charlotte Flair is going to hold a WWE Championship. It’s almost like the promotion can’t help themselves when it comes to putting gold around her waist. Fans may roll their eyes, but perhaps there’s an opportunity to see her pick up yet another title, while being in the position to build the rest of the division for the betterment of everyone involved.
