It looks like Hollywood has come calling the professional wrestling world once again. Liv Morgan confirmed that she’s taking time off to film a “major Hollywood movie.” Morgan made the announcement during a segment on WWE Monday Night Raw speaking to SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis.
On Monday, April 28, PWInsider reported that Liv Morgan would have what was described as a “big week.” Exactly what that meant was not revealed, but Morgan’s announcement during Raw completely broke the news.
No official announcement has been made from WWE as of this writing. Morgan also has not revealed what movie and which role she is taking.
Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez are the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. They added to their record, becoming four-time champions when they regained the titles from Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria on the April 21 episode of WWE Raw. There’s no word on if they will vacate the titles.
It was not announced when Morgan will leave television and how long she will be gone.
Liv Morgan is one of those members of the women’s division who has built a strong fanbase over the years. She’s a former two-time women’s champion, holding the SmackDown Women’s Title and the WWE Women’s World Championship.
Morgan’s fan base has long wanted to see her booked in stronger positions. Even though she’s been a champion several times, she’s frequently booked at a tier below women such as Becky Lynch and Rhea Ripley. There was even a push to add her to the WrestleMania 40 title match between Ripley and Lynch. Even though they took queues from Cody Rhodes, that push to change the situation was unsuccessful.
It will be interesting to see if WWE takes this opportunity to put the WWE Women’s Championship on an underutilized duo like Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. There are also tag teams on WWE NXT that could use the opportunity to further establish their names in the women’s division. This is a moment for WWE to do something fresh and build some new stars.
