Darby Allin is the man to eventually defeat Jon Moxley
At AEW World’s End, Jon Moxley will defend the AEW World Championship against Orange Cassidy, Jay White, and “Hangman” Adam Page. It’s an angle in which these three men are attempting to thwart Moxley’s plans to shape AEW in his own image. However, they will fail, because the one true individual that will eventually overcome Moxley is none other than Darby Allin.
AEW is attempting to do something special with Darby Allin. In fact, the company has been molding him for a run as the face of the promotion since he was signed back in 2019. Think back to how he was so well protected initially, and how that has continued for much of his run to date. He stood side by side with Sting during the Icon’s career-ending romp as a tag team, and now he’s going to follow in his image in this storyline.
Remember when Sting was the only man to stand up to the NWO. As Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and others did as they liked in WCW, it was Sting who haunted them from the rafters. Tony Khan and the company would like to shape Darby Allin in that same image. As Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, PAC, Wheeler Yuta, and Marina Shafir terrorize the AEW roster, Allin was one of the first men to put his foot down. He was the one who was handcuffed in the ring as they sent Bryan Danielson into retirement. Everything points to Allin being the guy that will eventually overcome Moxley.
The other layer to think about is that it was Allin that opened the door for Moxley to challenge Danielson and do what he did to the eventual Hall of Famer. Had Allin not rushed into that challenge and lost, perhaps Moxley would have never received the title shot in the first place. All these story bits are ample fodder to use to craft Allin as the man who will eventually send the Death Riders packing.
The four-way match at Worlds End should be a fun one. There’s reason to be interested in each of the men attempting to stop Moxley. But go into that match knowing that the real hero of this angle is going to be Darby Allin. This is the perfect story to use to get him his first run as AEW World Champion, and that’s going to come at the cost of Jon Moxley.
