In no world does Cody Rhodes need another 378-day title reign. With months left until WrestleMania, the only logical way to get Rhodes there is through adversity. Even though he's less than 100 days into his second reign as Undisputed Champion, there's no reason not to put the belt on Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night's Main Event.
Survivor Series: WarGames is the next Premium Live Event for WWE. It remains to be seen who makes up each team, but if one thing is for sure, it's the fact that McIntyre and Rhodes will both be on the card. Drew has lost more title matches than he can count, so him losing in Salt Lake City, UT, could be the final nail in the coffin.
Drew McIntyre Needs This Win

While his bout with Rhodes on SmackDown doesn't really count as a title match, he fell short in an underwhelming main event at WrestlePalooza. That's not necessarily either of their faults; it just goes to show how little WWE has cared about their main event scene.
Rhodes has done everything in his power to carry Friday Night SmackDown, but he can only do so much. The main event talent pool is quite thin, so his feud with McIntyre has to be extended. If WWE has Rhodes beat McIntyre once again, the WWE Universe may lose all faith in McIntyre ever being a believable challenger.
It's been well over four years since McIntyre has had a solid run as champion. The majority of his work came during the Thunderdome era, so he didn't even get to appreciate it with fans in attendance. Sure, he won the title at WrestleMania 40, but Damian Priest cashed in and ruined everything.
McIntyre's String Of Losses

Priest was a fine champion, but McIntyre deserves another run as the top champion. Since losing to Priest at Mania, he's lost title matches at Clash at the Castle, Money in the Bank, Backlash, and WrestlePalooza.
Sure, one of those was a United States Championship match, but that doesn't excuse the fact that he's come up short time and time again for the better part of a year. On top of that, he lost a four-way No. 1 contender's match on RAW and failed to win the Elimination Chamber earlier this year.
At the end of the day, WWE seems to be scared of transitional champions. A few years ago, they would've had no issue with McIntyre holding the belt for a few months. Even if he's only champion until the Royal Rumble, it at least puts him in the upper echelon and doesn't make him look like a fool everytime he loses these title matches.
