AEW Winter is Coming is set for December 10 and its a big showcase event leading into AEW World's End. It looks like AEW is aiming for a big title match for new AEW World Champion, Samoa Joe. Eddie Kingston has Joe in his sights and while this is an intriguing move, it feels like one that will lead to an outcome day one fans won’t want to see.

Eddie Kingston embodies what AEW means to professional wrestling. While he may not be a “day one” or “homegrown” star with the organization, the minute he stepped through the curtain to challenge Cody Rhodes for the AEW TNT Championship, Kingston in AEW just felt right. He’s delivered on that feeling every step of the way, becoming one of the most popular stars on the roster. That popularity takes shape in many fans wanting to see Kingston hold that AEW World Championship over his head. But there’s apprehension whether that will actually happen.

Samoa Joe winning the world title at AEW Full Gear was quite the surprise. Hangman Adam Page was sitting strong in his second run as champion, and it felt like the feud with Joe was a typical feud meant to build his reign, not bring it to an end. But come to an end it did thanks to HOOK. The same HOOK that was teaming with Kingston, which brings the story full circle for the moment.

Eddie Kingston vs Samoa Joe is going to be a fun build

Eddie Kingston would be the perfect AEW World Champion. Everything about him is believable. Fans can believe he loves the business just as much as they do. Fans can believe that he loves AEW just as much as they do, and that he’s as passionate about it as they are. He was unfortunately injured during much of The Deathriders angle, but Kingston would have been a popular choice to dethrone Jon Moxley as well. Eddie Kingston as AEW World Champion would work, it just does not feel like it is going to happen anytime soon.

Samoa Joe will not lose the AEW World Championship to Eddie Kingston. At least not at World’s End. In many ways, this feels like the start of a “swan song” of sorts for Joe. He’s talked openly about retiring, and not doing it with the pomp and circumstance that some of his peers are enjoying right now. He deserves every point of this run and it is still amazing to see him get his time on top of a major promotion at this point in his career.

The build to Samoa Joe versus Eddie Kingston is going to be a fun ride that should attract the attention of AEW fans for sure. While it would be great to see Kingston as the world champion, don’t get your hopes up. It is not going to happen, at least not this time around.
