The April 25 episode of WWE SmackDown was the final stop in the 2025 WrestleMania season. A high-energy show, with a lot to talk about in the hours after. One topic was Zelina Vega defeating Chelsea Green to become the new WWE Women’s United States Champion. This is her first singles title since joining the WWE, and her fans took to social media to celebrate the big victory.

THIS IS FOR YOU
Thank you for standing by me no matter what. I was on the biggest losing streak and y'all still repped me, pushed me, inspired me to keep going and believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. I'll be forever grateful.. llysm. pic.twitter.com/S9ipIrQGp7
Zelina Vega versus Chelsea Green was one of several matches that didn’t make the WrestleMania 41 card. Fans were rightly upset that Green was left off the show, being one of the few champions offered a spot to perform in front of the massive crowd. The same is said for Vega, who would have had a career-defining moment on the biggest stage in professional wrestling.
Still, seeing Vega get the victory on SmackDown was a testament to a performer who has believed in herself, even when it seemed like WWE never had any intentions of letting her shine in the spotlight. Regardless of the fact that her talents were frequently recognized.
At the end of 2023, Vega signed a new deal with the company after receiving praise for her work as a part of the Latino World Order. Earlier that year, she faced off against Rhea Ripley at BackLash and received a huge ovation from the crowd in Puerto Rico. Vega could easily be the face of the women’s division from a Latino perspective, which is especially important as the WWE plans to put on bigger shows in Mexico and South America.
Fans took to social media to celebrate her moment. Even Triple H called out her hard work and dedication.
Perseverance and hard work will always rise to the top…

“Perseverance and hard work will always rise to the top,” Triple H posted. “Congratulations Zelina Vega on your first-ever WWE singles championship.”
Yes, this happened the same night that her husband, Aleister Black, returned to WWE television after a four-year absence from the company. But it is unfair to downgrade her performance in this company and throughout her 15 years in pro wrestling.
Zelina Vega has been a part of WWE since 2018, but in reality, it feels like so much more time has gone by. Vega has consistently been placed in the role of being a side character to others, but she’s long had the talent and fanbase to get a better spot on the roster. Many forget that before making the jump to WWE, she performed for several other companies like TNA, WWN, SHINE, GFW, and more.
Winning the WWE Women’s United States Championship was a huge moment. Hopefully, WWE books her as a competent champion and begins to build the legacy of that title with Vega as a popular fan favorite.
