Fraxiom continue to be the best story in tag team wrestling
Tag team wrestling in WWE has taken a backseat. At least on the main roster shows, as the titles are nearly forgotten about on SmackDown and Monday Night Raw. But the tag team story being told with Fraxiom on WWE NXT is one of the best angles happening in the business and has elevated this duo to one of the top teams in all wrestling.
Nathan Frazer and Axiom escaped the NXT Deadline with the tag team titles. They defeated No Quarter Catch Crew to retain their championships, extending their 99-day run into their second tenure. This was quite a feat as Frazer was involved in the Iron Survivor Match earlier in the evening. Plus, the creative direction continues to lean into the idea that Frazer and Axiom aren’t on the same page.
The growing divide between Axiom and Frazer will lead to a split at some point. In professional wrestling, this is almost always the case. But it is an enjoyable twist to see the duo find ways to lean on each other to win, putting out the idea that “everything is fine.” When in fact, everything isn’t fine. This has been a fun angle to watch unfold, as fans know their individual aspirations will eventually bite them in them behind.
Or does that have to be the case? NXT, and WWE, have done a good job with twists and turns in recent stories. Could they lead viewers down one path when it comes to the tag team titles, before doing something different in the end? Shawn Michaels has found a way to “retell” a lot of the angles he experienced when he was coming up in WWE. Is he heading toward a split like he and Marty Jannetty had as the rockers (which was already done with Fatal Attraction), or will fans get something entirely different with Fraxiom? That’s an exciting question that will be answered in time.
Along the way, Nathan Frazer and Axiom continue to put on some of the best tag team wrestling in the business. Their match with NQCC adds another hit in a catalog that includes several bangers. Their Matchguide on Cagematch shows that voters consistently love their matches, more so than others seen in WWE. Fraxiom’s current run of great matches could be put up against any other team in the business today and stand the test of any debate.
It would be great to see Fraxiom on the main roster, battling DIY and Motor City Machine Guns. Frazer and Axiom are perhaps better in WWE NXT, where they won’t get lost in the shuffle, which is most likely what would happen on either Raw or SmackDown.
If you’re a fan of tag team wrestling, make it a point to watch Nathan Frazer and Axiom. The work they are doing in WWE NXT is among the best in professional wrestling and their story has been fun every step of the way.
