WWE is an international organization, with stars and personalities that are recognized around the world. In recent years, new leadership has made it a point to take the show on the road, going to several major countries for monthly PLE showcases. Triple H spoke about plans for the future, bringing up both South American and Mexico as planned trips. These are two major markets that the WWE must focus on with upcoming excursions.
“This year we’ll be in Paris, France. That’ll be off the charts. We’re going to go to Perth, Australia again. The Middle East is always off the charts,” Triple H said while speaking on The Flagrant Podcast. “We haven’t even touched South America, going to Mexico, all these things that are upcoming and we will be doing.”
The last part of that statement is especially important. WWE has always had a strong fanbase made up of Latino wrestling fans. There are several examples of when fans have shown up to support wrestlers within that demographic.
Look back at WWE Backlash in 2023 when Zelina Vega took on Rhea Ripley in Puerto Rico. She received such an overwhelming response during her entrance that she ended up in tears. For a more recent example, look no further than Penta’s debut in WWE, and fans have continued to ride for not only him, but his brother, Rey Fenix.
This roster is packed with Latino wrestlers who would thrive during an excursion in Mexico and South America. Andrade, Santos Escobar, Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee, Lola Vice, and several others immediately come to mind. WWE must leverage those upcoming opportunities to put these stars front and center. Think about a PLE in Mexico City. A locale rich with pro wrestling history. WWE has never pulled that off and that would be a moment that could not be ignored.
The UFC also benefits from WWE taking the trip South of the border
Combat sports overall have long had strong Latino fan bases. Boxing comes to mind first, but even mixed martial arts has a growing space among fight fans. Still, the UFC has struggled to create a consistent hold in the market. Leveraging the merger with the WWE would allow that company to take advantage of the positive press and momentum.
According to Triple H, WWE is heading to South America and Mexico. While no events have been officially announced, these excursions will be a big deal because there’s a robust market of wrestling fans waiting to see the biggest show in the business.
