It looks like SmackDown fans have said his name, because Joe Hendry is set to head to the Fright Night brand. WrestleVotes Radio via Fightful Select reported on December 26 that the former TNA World Champion is poised to make the move to the main roster.

According to the report, Joe Hendry is set to get a main roster call-up with SmackDown being his assigned brand. He recently popped up on the show to take on The Miz, winning the Miracle on 34th Street Fight. It was a comical bout that firmly cements exactly where Hendry will fit on the main roster. As SmackDown goes back to three hours, Hendry is expected to be one of the performers the company leans on to freshen up the show.

Joe Hendry will be a comedy act and nothing more in WWE

Joe Hendry is proof that the power of the internet is real. In 2024 he became a hilarious meme thanks to the music video he released that charted purely thanks to the power of the IWC. That led to him getting the attention of WWE as Hendry became one of the first featured performers during the NXT/TNA crossover.

Since that explosion in popularity, Hendry has become more of a comedy act. He pops up in the weirdest moments, gets the camera zoom-in and that’s about it. Hendry has found himself in some big moments so far. That surprise match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41 was huge, but it wasn’t without criticism as fans pointed to this being the moment where his momentum would come to a halt. And that it did, both in WWE and TNA where he was still contracted at the time.

However, reaching WWE was clearly his overall goal. Hendry is going to be in a spot where he gets ample television and crowd reactions, but his biggest fans should not hope for more. While there’s still a chance he could find himself as a midcard champion at some point, Joe Hendry will not reach higher heights on the roster.

There’s still going to be a lot of fun to be had when he pops up in the most ridiculous of ways.
