It looks like it has finally happened. On Thursday, November 13, Fightful Select reported that Joe Hendry signed a deal with WWE, ending the long speculation that he was going to make the move to the biggest promotion in wrestling once his time with TNA Wrestling ended.
According to Fightful sources, "Hendry is effectively full-time with WWE at this point and officially with the company, and had been someone they wanted to bring in for quite some time."
Joe Hendry became an Internet darling that hit massive virality thanks to his quirky music video that became his theme song. His first surprise appearance in WWE NXT was one of the most viewed and engaged clips in professional wrestling. Since then, he's appeared in the Royal Rumble, and as Randy Orton's surprise opponent at WrestleMania when Kevin Owens was forced out due to injury.
Expectations are that Hendry will add another surprise to his resume during the November 14 episode of WWE SmackDown. The "Last Time Is Now" Tournament has kicked off and the prize is a chance to face John Cena in his retirememnt match. LA Knight is set for a match against a mystery opponent. While some fans would like to see performers like Trick Williams or Oba Femi take that spot, Joe Hendry was also on the short list of potential entrants. News of his signing further builds the momentum that he will take this spot.
Joe Hendry will thrive in WWE. He's the exact type of sports entertainer that WWE covets. He "got himself over" with the fans, but it will be interesting to see how far that carries him within WWE. Will he be a serious contender to any titles? Or see as a comedic talent that can be inserted for a laugh and pop at any moment?
