Free agency is all the rave as WWE no longer is the only major player in the wrestling business. While it’s still the largest promotion, performers have options when deciding where they will take their talents next. Fans will have their eyes on former TNA World Champion Josh Alexander as his contract is coming to an end on February 14.
Fightful Select reported the news on Sunday, February 9. According to its report, there’s “no indication” on where Alexander will go next. A few weeks ago, his former colleague Jordynne Grace was signed to WWE, taking one of the major free-agent pieces off the board. Alexander is a big name as well and one that fans will want to see continue his streak of excellent work. Both All Elite Wrestling and WWE should make moves to bring him in, as he has the potential to be a major player in either promotion.
Josh Alexander would be another great wrestler for the AEW roster
AEW is known as the place where “the best wrestle.” The promotion stands on that moniker thanks to the critically acclaimed matches that are put out on a near weekly basis. While some fans may complain about the nature of some of the “stories” in the company, there should be no complaints about AEW’s ability to give fans the matches they want to see.
This is exactly where Alexander would fit in with AEW. Think about some of the potential contests. First-time singles matches against performers like Swerve Strickland, PAC, Shelton Benjamin, and more. A rematch against Konosuke Takeshita. Josh Alexander and “Hangman” Adam Page going at it for the first time in a singles match. A first-time singles match against Kazuchika Okada. There are several opportunities to put on matches that would be on the shortlist for the 2025 Match of the Year. If that’s the legacy Alexander wants to have, then AEW is the best option.
WWE is the best option to become a bigger star
WWE is the place to go to become a bigger star. The biggest promotion in the business has more eyeballs on the product, and more cache as a mainstream name. The company has helped launch the careers of several performers in different ways, and that’s a benefit of signing with the biggest organization in the business.
Would Josh Alexander have the opportunity to put on great matches? Of course, he would. Think about Alexander versus Seth Rollins, GUNTHER, Ilja Dragunov, Bron Breakker, Jacob Fatu, and others. Would they happen at the same clip as they would in AEW? Not at all, but there’s still a lot of fun to be had. And do not forget about the possibility of telling a major story with AJ Styles. Alexander and Styles are perhaps the two most important men to step into TNA and it would be interesting to see how that angle plays out.
Josh Alexander is the top free agent available in professional wrestling. There’s no idea where he will show up when his time in TNA Wrestling is done, but AEW and WWE have all the reasons to put on their own versions of the full-court press to sign a talent of his abilities.
