The December 1 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw featured a big surprise victory for LA Knight. He picked up a win over Jey Uso in the John Cena “Last Time Is Now” Tournament. It was a win that makes sense because Uso is coming off the tough WarGames match over the weekend and Knight was fresh. LA Knight is heading for the semifinals and booking him to win the whole thing and take on John Cena would be the best way to go.

When the tournament was announced, reports were that GUNTHER was the top name expected to win it all. That makes sense, as he’s one of the most well-protected performers on the WWE roster. But Gunther doesn’t need this match and he certainly doesn’t need the victory. He’s a made man. He can walk into the title picture at any moment and make a claim to the top spot. For all intents and purposes, Gunther is bullet proof.

That is why LA Knight needs this victory. Knight is one of those odd stories that just doesn’t make sense. For as over as he is with the WWE audience, both casual and hardcore, WWE continues to look the other way. The company has looked the other way for years and that has left fans puzzled. Knight hasn't reached the levels of KofiMania or The Yes Movement, but if he continues to become a cult favorite at this pace, there’s a good chance that will be the case.

LA Knight needs this match against John Cena

LA Knight needs the momentum that would come with a one week build heading into the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. Cena has done an excellent job making every match during the latter part of this retirement tour count. Even if he and Knight get one segment together, that would be more than enough to raise the stock of that match, and Knight for being in it.

If LA Knight doesn’t get some true momentum behind him early in 2026, there’s a strong chance that not only will he never get that main event spot, but he’ll never get that top championship run that so many people are hoping to see. WWE has the opportunity to capture the proverbial lightning in a bottle. But for some reason, the company is dead set on kicking that bottle over every time.

WWE commentators call LA Knight the “megastar.” That nickname almost feels like a joke, because the organization doesn’t book him as such. After a surprise victory over Jey Uso, he moves on to the finals of the John Cena tournament. Here’s to hoping he gets a huge win and that final match against the proverbial GOAT of WWE.
